1/15/25 : Today at the Complex - Winter HP Camp - Day Three

Updated: 12 minutes ago

A bit of a chilly day (by Florida standards) as HP Camp continued - the main focus today being on nutrition along with strength and conditioning. There were scheduled education sessions on base-running for the position players on Roberts field and all players did their toss and catch throwing drills as well. I saw no mound action for any pitchers - likely a built in early recovery day from the initial nine-square target throwing yesterday.

Big League early arrivals :

Jordan Romano was back at work once again - he had a toss and catch on flat ground in right field on Roberts this morning and then continued his indoor work. Jordan also took time to sign autographs for those seeking them - seems as advertised, a down to earth pleasant person. Rafael Marchan was on hand working today as well.

Injury Front :

RHP Christian McGowan recently had labrum surgery and will be out of action for approximately twelve months. He’s began his recovery work at the complex with the rehab team but is limited thus far as his arm is immobilized by a brace. Christian is a tremendous worker and will certainly put in the effort to re-gain top condition. He’s battled thru injury recovery the past two years after missing the majority of the 2022 season working back from TJ surgery. The young man remains in good spirits and is up for the challenge and work ahead of him, we wish him a complete recovery!

International Signing Day :

Today marks the beginning of the new international signing period for foreign born (outside of the U.S.) players. It’s anticipated that the Phillies will sign approximately thirty new players. Baseball America has reported “The Phillies typically sign at least one seven-figure bonus player, but this year they are spreading their bonus pool space around more with all of their signings as of now set to be under $1 million.”

Baseball America has listed the following Phillies signings thus far :

Nieves Izaguirre, SS, Venezuela

Elias Marrero, SS, Dominican Republic

Deivis Velasquez, C, Venezuela

Geremi Viloria, RHP, Venezuela

Daibert Cruceta, OF, Venezuela

Leonardo Carpio, OF, Venezuela

Rafael Oropeza, SS, Venezuela

Filippo Sabatini, RHP, Italy

Eduardo Guillen, OF, Cuba

Carlos Duran, LHP, Dominican Republic

Deiry Gonzalez, RHP, Dominican Republic

Anderson Araujo, C, Venezuela

Samuel Salcedo, SS, Venezuela

Nelson Prieto, C, Venezuela

Carlos Severino, SS, Dominican Republic

Reyner Zambrano, RHP, Venezuela

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
