Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Dominican Winter League :
1/14/25 action : Johan Rojas earned the league’s rookie of the year trophy as well as being named the winner of the Gold Glove award for center field for the regular season. His current team, the Tigres del Licey (9-3) defeated the Aguilas Cibaeñas (2-10) 1-0 in round robin playoff action. Johan was 0 for 4 in the contest. Former Phillies pitchers Adonis Medina and Enyel De Los Santos each threw a scoreless inning in the game for the Tigres. In the other playoff game the Leones del Escogido (8-4) defeated the Estrellas Orientales (5-7) by a count of 10-6. Former Phillies infielder Jean Segura went 1 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Leones.
Venezuela Winter League :
1/14/25 action : the Bravos de Margarita (9-5) defeated the Cardenales de Lara (10-4) in a 1-0 round robin playoff game. Former Phillies Ali Castillo and Simon Muzziotti each went 2 for 5 for the Aguilas del Zulia (6-7) in a 8-2 playoff game win over the Navegantes del Magallanes (5-9).
Puerto Rico Winter League :
1/14/25 action : : RHP Carlos Francisco pitched a scoreless inning (1 K) for the Indios de Mayaguez in a 3-0 playoff win against the Criollos de Caguas. With the victory the Indios won the best of seven series 4-2. They now will meet the Senadores de San Juan in the league championship series.
Mexican Pacific League :
1/14/25 action : the Charros de Jalisco defeated the Naranjeros de Hermosillo 12-8 to take a 2-1 series lead in their best of seven semi-finals playoff series. The Tomateros de Culiacán defeated the Cañeros de Los Mochis 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in their series - shortstop Luis Verdugo was 2 for 4 (singles) in the contest for the Tomateros.
Nicaragua Winter League :
1/14/25 action : the Leones de Leon defeated the Tren del Norte 5-4 to even the championship series at three wins each setting up the decisive seventh game. The Leones scored all five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the walk off win!
Colombia Winter League :
1/14/25 action : no games played
Australian Winter League :
League play resumes 1/15/25. It will be the final round of the regular season.
Panama Winter League :
The season is complete - the Águilas Metropolitanas were crowned champions.
