Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Colombia Winter League :
1/16/25 action : Felix Reyes (3B) had a big game for the Caimanes de Barranquilla going 3 for 4 with two singles and a home run - he’s had a great winter league season however the Vqueros de Monteria prevailed 3-2 in the contest to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the best of seven championship series.
Australian Winter League :
1/17/25 action : the Melbourne Aces (18-20) hammered the Adelaide Giants (21-17) 16 to 4 in their push to make the playoffs, Adelaide has already qualified for the post-season. Former Phillies minor league catcher Logan Moore went 1 for 2 with a three run home run for Melbourne - he also walked twice and posted four RBIs in total. Catcher Lou Albrecht was 2 for 3 (single & double) with a walk for Adelaide and former Phillies minor leaguers Nick Ward (3B) and Jordan McArdle (DH/1B) each hit solo home runs for the Giants. Former Phillies minor league first baseman Rixon Wingrove threw a mop up inning in relief (1 R, 3 H) for Adelaide.
Venezuela Winter League :
1/16/25 action : the Bravos de Margarita (11-5) defeated the Tigres de Aragua (4-11) 13 to 4 in round robin playoff play. Pedro Martinez (SS) went 2 for 4 with a single, triple, two walks and four runs scored for the Bravos. The Cardenales de Lara (11-4) defeated the Aguilas del Zulia (6-9) in the other playoff contest by a score of 7-1.
Mexican Pacific League :
1/16/25 action : the Charros de Jalisco advanced to the league championship series with a 14-1 lopsided victory over the Naranjeros de Hermosillo winning their semi-finals 4 games to 1. While he’s not a former Phillie free agent outfielder Billy Hamilton (34 years old) went 3 for 6 in the game with a single, double and home run and scored twice for the Charros. The switch hitting speedster played last summer in the Mexican League, his last season in affiliated baseball was 2023 with the White Sox organization. The Tomateros de Culiacán defeated the Cañeros de Los Mochis 3-2 to take a 3-2 series lead in their best of seven semifinals. Shortstop Luis Verdugo was 1 for 4 in the game for the Tomateros.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
1/16/25 action : no games played - the league championship series begins 1/17/25.
Dominican Winter League :
1/16/25 action : no games played - scheduled off day.
Nicaragua Winter League :
The season is complete - the Leones de Leon were crowned champions.
Panama Winter League :
The season is complete - the Águilas Metropolitanas were crowned champions.
