Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Venezuela Winter League :
1/2/25 action : Leandro Pineda (RF) went 2 for 5 with a single and home run posting two RBIs and a run scored for Navegantes del Magallanes (0-4) in a 12-7 round robin playoff loss to Cardenales de Lara (4-0). Former Phillies minor league infielder Ali Castillo (1B) went 2 for 5 (singles) with a run scored for the Aguilas del Zulia (3-1) in their 4-2 round robin playoff win over Tigres de Aragua (1-3). Former Phillies Freddy Galvis (SS) and Simon Muzziotti (CF) were each 1 for 3 in the game with singles fr the Aguilas, Muzziotti also walked twice, stole a base and scored a run.
Panama Winter League :
1/2/25 action : in game one of the best of three semi-final playoff series Los Federales de Chiriqui defeated Águilas Metropolitanas 10-5. Eduardo Tait (DH) was 2 for 5 (single & double) with an RBI and run scored for the Aguilas. Former Phillies minor league RHP Harold Arauz posted the win for Chiriqui (5 IP, 2 R - 1 earned, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K’s). Former Phillies RHP Severino Gonzalez pitched 1.2 scoreless innings (2 H, 2 K’s) in relief for Los Federales. The series concludes with a double header if needed on 1/3/25.
Australia Baseball League :
The Phillies contingent plays for the Adelaide Giants.
1/3/25 action : Canberra 5 (15-14) Adelaide 2 (16-13)
Former Phillies minor leaguers Nick Ward (2 for 5 - singles) and Jared Carr (2 for 4, single & double, run scored & RBI) led the offense playing LF and CF respectively. Former Phillies minor leaguer first baseman Rixon Wingrove was 1 for 4 (double). Diego Gonzalez (3B - 0 for 4), Luis Caicuto (C - 0 for 2, 2 walks) and Nikau Pouaka-Grego (2B - 0 for 4) were held hitless. Former Phillies minor league LHP Lachlan Wells pitched five innings (4 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 4 K’s - 98 pitches - 61 strikes) - he was tagged with his first loss of the season.
Dominican Winter League :
1/2/25 action : Johan Rojas (0 for 4) played center field and batted second for Tigres del Licey (1-0) in their first round robin playoff game - a 5-1 win over Aguilas Cibaeñas (0-1). He was added to the Licey playoff roster after being drafted from his regular season team the Gigantes del Cibao. Johan led the league in stolen bases (23) during the regular season, he was 6th in OBP at .385 (111 PA’s) for those who had more than 100 plate appearances.Former Phillies minor leaguers Jonathan Villar (1 for 3 - double & run scored) and Sam McWilliams (RHP - 2/3 IP - retired the only two batters he faced) and Christian Betancourt (0 for 3) who was in a prior year ST camp with the Phillies played in the game for the Aguilas. Rodolfo Castro (2B) went 1 for 4 with a double for the Estrellas Orientales (1-0) in their 4-0 round robin playoff win against Leones del Escogido (0-1). Former Phillies infielder Jean Segura was 1 for 4 with a double playing second base for the Leones.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
1/2/25 action : Carlos Francisco pitched a scoreless inning (1 K) in relief for Indios de Mayaguez in a 6-1 win over Criollos de Caguas. His ERA of 1.23 (22 IP) is fourth best in the league amongst pitchers with more than twenty IP. With the win the Indios clinch first place in the regular season and the top seed for the upcoming playoffs. Former Phillies minor league outfielder Cornelius Randolph was 2 for 4 (single & double) with a run scored and RBI for the Senadores de San Juan in a 6-3 loss to the Leones de Ponce.
Mexican Pacific League :
1/2/25 action : former Phillies minor league infielder Jorge Flores went 4 for 5 (three singles & HR) with three runs scored and an RBI for the Algodoneros de Guasave (1-1) in a 5-1 playoff series win against the Cañeros de Los Mochis. Luis Verdugo (SS) was 0 for 4 for Tomateros de Culiacán (2-0) in their 13-2 playoff victory over Venados de Mazatlán (0-2).
Nicaragua Winter League :
1/2/25 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Jiandido Tromp was 1 for 3 (single) with two walks for the Leones de Leon (8-0) in a 9-6 round robin playoff win against Tren del Norte (3-5). Former Phillies minor league infielder Raul Rivas was 2 for 3 (singles) with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored for Indios del Boer (3-5) in a 10-5 round robin playoff win against Tigres de Chinandega (2-6).
Colombia Winter League :
1/2/25 action : no games - playoffs begin tonight - 1/3/25.
