Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Australia Baseball League :
1/4/25 action : The Phillies contingent plays for the Adelaide Giants. They played a double header vs Canberra.
Game One : Adelaide 5 (17-13) Canberra 3 (15-15)
Former Phillies minor league infielder Nick Ward (3B) went 2 for 3 (single & HR) with a walk, RBI and two runs scored out of the lead off spot in the order. The young man provides a winning presence to any ball club that he’s on, he’s currently a free agent and would be a great addition to any organization this coming summer season. Former Phillies minor league outfielder Jared Carr (CF) was 1 for 3 (HR) with a walk and RBI. Former Phillies minor league first baseman Rixon Wingrove was 1 for 3 (single) with a walk. Second baseman Nikau Pouaka-Grego was 0 for 2 with a walk and run scored. Lou Albrecht caught the seven inning game and went 0 for 3 at the plate.
Game Two : Adelaide 8 (18-13) Canberra 1 (15-16)
Diego Gonzalez (3B) had a big game going 3 for 5 (single, double & triple) with an RBI and two runs scored. Former Phillies minor league outfielder Jared Carr (CF) was 2 for 4 (single & double) with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Former Phillies minor league infielder Nick Ward (LF) went 1 for 4 with a double, walk and run scored. Second baseman Nikau Pouaka-Grego was 0 for 2 with two walks and a run scored. Luis Caicuto caught the game and went 0 for 4 with a walk at the plate. LH Matt Osterberg was outstanding on the mound going six innings (1 unearned R, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 77 pitches - 53 strikes). RH Estibenzon Jimenez was also outstanding - he pitched three scoreless frames - 0 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s - 46 pitches - 29 strikes.
In other league action former Phillies minor league C/OF Chris Burke is having a strong season for the Melbourne Aces - in his last three games he’s went 4 for 12 with two doubles, a run scored and four RBI’s - always a pleasant young man to chat with when he was with the Phillies.
Dominican Winter League :
1/3/25 action : Johan Rojas (CF) was 1 for 3 (HR) with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored for Tigres del Licey (1-1) in a 6-4 round robin playoff loss to Estrellas Orientales (2-0). Rodolfo Castro (2B/3B) was 1 for 4 (single) with an RBI for the Estrellas. Former Phillies minor league RHP Ulises Joaquin threw 1.2 scoreless innings (1 H, 1 K) for the Tigres in relief. Former Phillies infielder Jean Segura (2B) went 2 for 4 with a single, double, RBI and run scored for Leones del Escogido (1-1) in a 4-2 round robin playoff win against Aguilas Cibaeñas (0-2). Former Phillies pitchers Jeurys Familia and Jimmy Cordero each threw a scoreless inning in relief for the Leones.
Venezuela Winter League :
1/3/25 action : former Phillies minor league LHP Tyler Alexander pitched six innings (1 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s) for Navegantes del Magallanes (1-4) in a 5-1 round robin playoff victory against Bravos de Margarita (2-3).
Panama Winter League :
1/3/25 action : Eduardo Tait (DH) was 1 for 3 (single) for Águilas Metropolitana as they evened their best of three playoff series with a 1-0 victory over Los Federales de Chiriqui. The decisive third game of the series was suspended due to rain and will be completed later today (1/4/25).
Puerto Rico Winter League :
1/3/25 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Jan Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a walk, RBI and run scored on his 30th birthday for Gigantes de Carolina in a 5-3 win over Indios de Mayaguez. The regular season ends 1/4/25.
Nicaragua Winter League :
1/3/25 action : Former Phillies minor league infielder Raul Rivas was 2 for 5 (singles) with two RBIs for Indios del Boer (4-5) in a 5-2 round robin playoff win against Tigres de Chinandega (2-7).
Colombia Winter League :
1/3/25 action : Felix Reyes (3B) was 0 for 4 for Leones de Barranquilla (0-1) in a 4-2 round robin playoff loss to Caimenes de Barranquilla (1-0).
Mexican Pacific League :
1/3/25 action : no games played
