Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Mexican Pacific League :
1/4/25 action : Luis Verdugo (SS) went 2 for 4 (double & triple) with a run scored and two RBIs for Tomateros de Culiacán (3-0) in a 12-5 playoff series win over Venados de Mazatlán (0-3). The Tomateros can close out their quarterfinal match with one more victory - they were the regular season leader with a 43-25 record.
Australia Baseball League :
1/5/25 action : Former Phillies minor league outfielder Jared Carr (CF) went 2 for 3 (single & HR) with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Adelaide Giants in a 8-5 loss to the Canberra Calvery. Former Phillies minor league infielder Nick Ward (LF) was 1 for 5 with a home run while former Phillies minor league first baseman Rixon Wingrove went 1 for 4 with a double and RBI. Current Phillies minor leaguers Diego Gonzalez (played 3B - 0 for 3, one RBI), Nikau Pouaka-Grego (played 2B - 0 for 4) and catcher Lou Albrecht (0 for 4) played in the game for the Giants as well.
Dominican Winter League :
1/4/25 action : Johan Rojas (CF) went 0 for 3 with an RBI and former Phillies RHP Enyel De Los Santos struck out the side in a perfect inning of relief for Tigres del Licey (2-1) as they defeated Estrellas Orientales (2-1) 4-3 in round robin playoff play. Rodolfo Castro (PH/2B/3B) went 0 for 2 with a run scored for the Estrellas. Former Phillies infielder Jean Segura (2B) went 2 for 4 (singles) with a walk, run scored and RBI for Leones del Escogido (1-2) in a 7-6 round robin playoff loss to Aguilas Cibaeñas (1-2). Segura (34 years old) has played the full winter season for the Leones and posted a .287/.324/.377 slash line in 180 plate regular season appearances with 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 23 RBIs - he’s hitting .417/.462/.583 in 13 playoff plate appearances thus far. Jean played briefly (14 games) in the minor leagues at AAA level Norfolk in the Baltimore Orioles organization last summer signing with them on 8/9/24 and being released on 9/1/24 - he last appeared in the majors with the Miami Marlins in 2023 as their third baseman.
Venezuela Winter League :
1/4/25 action : former Phillies outfielder Simon Muzziotti went 3 for 5 (two singles & double) for Aguilas del Zulia (3-2) in a 12-3 round robin playoff game loss to Bravos de Margarita (3-3). Former Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis was 2 for 4 (single & double) in the game for the Aguilas. Former Phillies catcher Wilson Ramos went 2 for 4 (single & double) with a walk, RBI and two runs scored for the Bravos.
Panama Winter League :
1/4/25 action : Eduardo Tait (DH) went 0 for 1 for the Águilas Metropolitana as they won their best of three playoff series with a 7-5 victory over two time defending league champion Los Federales de Chiriqui. The Águilas scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning for the come from behind win! They now face regular season winner Atlánticos de Bocas del Toro y Colón in a best of five league championship series beginning on 1/5/24 at 5 PM.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
1/4/25 action : RHP Carlos Francisco threw a perfect inning (1 K) for the Indios de Mayaguez in a 6-5 victory over the Gigantes de Carolina in the final game of regular season play. Former Phillies minor leaguer outfielder Jan Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Gigantes. Mayaguez had the best regular season record (24-16), they qualify for the playoffs along with Santurce (21-19) and San Juan (21-19). Caguas (19-21) and Ponce (18-22) will play a wild card playoff for the fourth spot on 1/5/25.
Nicaragua Winter League :
1/4/25 action : Former Phillies minor league infielder Raul Rivas was 1 for 3 (single) with a walk for the Indios del Boer (4-6) in a 4-3 round robin playoff loss against the Leones de Leon (9-1).
Colombia Winter League :
1/4/25 action : Felix Reyes (3B) was 1 for 4 (double) with an RBI for the Leones de Barranquilla (0-2) in a 3-2 round robin playoff loss against the Vaqueros de Monteria (1-1).
