I did a review of the regular season ending rosters (28 man rosters) of the twelve playoff teams to reflect the makeup. Of the 336 roster spots 112 (33 %) were occupied by âhome grownâ players playing on the same team that either originally drafted/signed or signed them as an international or un-drafted free agent.
Hereâs the breakdown (players on roster of the same team that originally signed them) :
Tigers - 17
Guardians - 15
Astros - 13
Royals - 13
Orioles - 10
Dodgers - 8
Yankees - 8
Mets - 7
Phillies - 6
Brewers - 6
Braves - 5
Padres - 4
Total - 112
Secondly I looked at the 12 playoff team group to determine how many players they had originally signed were on one of the rosters of the other 11 playoff teams - hereâs the breakdown :
Padres - 14
Dodgers - 9
Brewers - 9
Braves - 9
Tigers - 8
Phillies - 8
Astros - 8
Yankees - 8
Royals - 7
Orioles - 7
Guardians - 6
Mets - 4
Total - 97
So ⌠of the 336 regular season ending roster spots for the 12 playoff teams 209 (62%) of the players were originally signed by one of the 12 playoff teams - hereâs the breakdown :
Tigers - 25
Astros - 21
Guardians - 21
Royals - 20
Padres - 18
Dodgers - 17
Orioles - 17
Yankees - 16
Brewers - 15
Phillies - 14
Braves - 14
Mets - 11
Total - 209
Lastly where did the other 127 players come from that were on the 12 playoff teams regular season ending rosters? Hereâs a breakdown of the teams that originally signed those players.
Cardinals - 11
Rangers - 11
Marlins - 10
Cubs - 9
Jays - 9
White Sox - 9
Pirates - 8
Red Sox - 8
Diamondbacks - 7
Rays - 7
Reds - 7
Aâs - 6
Mariners - 5
Rockies - 5
Twins - 5
Nationals - 4
Angels - 3
Giants - 3
Total - 127
Just some numbers for those curious on how the 12 playoff teams rosters were built - now ya know đ¤.
