The Phillies have hired Tommy Slater onto the Player Development coaching staff and Blake Crosby as Assistant Director of International Scouting.
Mr. Slater has an impressive resume - he most recently was a Senior Advisor/Minor League Hitting Coordinator for the Miami Marlins organization (2021-2024) after spending four years as the Mets Assistant Hitting Coach from 2018 to 2021. Prior to that he worked nine seasons as a coach in the Yankees’ player development organization from 2009 to 2017 and as a collegiate baseball coach for 17 years with stays at Auburn University (Assistant - 1995-2000, Head Coach -2005-2008), the Virginia Military Institute (Head Coach - 2001-2003), and the University of Florida (Assistant - 2004). According to his LinkedIn profile he joined the Phillies this October.
Mr. Crosby also has an extensive pro baseball background - he most recently was a Special Assignment Scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization (2023-2024) and before that worked as the National Supervisor of Amateur Scouting for the Toronto Blue Jays (2018-2022). He was an Area and Regional Scouting Supervisor with the Blue Jays from 2010 to 2017. He began his pro baseball career as a minor league player in the Oakland A’s organization as their 42nd round pick in the 2009 draft from Sacramento State University - he played one season in the A’s organization. His older brother Bobby is a coach on the Oakland A’s major league staff and his father Ed played in the major leagues from 1970 to 1976 with the Cardinals, Reds and Indians as an infielder. Also according to his LinkedIn profile he onboarded with the Phillies in October.
