The Surprise Saguaros defeated the Salt River Rafters 5-3 yesterday to up their league leading record to 17-10 and guaranteeing an extra game for themselves in the post season, in fact they will play in the Championship game. The AFL regular season ends on Thursday, November 10th. On Friday, the 11th a one game “Play-In” contest between the leagues second and third place teams will take place. That will be followed by the league Championship Game on Saturday, the 12th.
The Saguaros have a 3 1/2 game lead over second place Peoria & Scottsdale ( tied at 13-13 ) and a four game lead over fourth place Glendale and Mesa ( tied at 12-13 ). Every team has just three remaining games on the regular season schedule.
In yesterday’s win the Saguaros ( comprised of team members from the Astros, Phillies, Royals, Rangers and Pirates ) saw two Phillies pitch an inning apiece. RH Brett Schulze threw a perfect frame striking out two batters ( 11 pitches - 8 strikes ) while LH Taylor Lehman yielded a run on two hits and a walk while striking out three batters ( 28 pitches - 19 strikes ).
Outfielder Johan Rojas has left Arizona to deal with a personal matter, he also suffered a left shoulder injury which cut short his participation however it’s not considered an issue - he will be ready for spring training camp.
