Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Australian Baseball League :
12/22/24 action : The Phillies contingent plays for the Adelaide Giants.
Adelaide 13 (14-10) Sydney 2 (14-9)
Nikau Pouaka Grego had a day! The twenty year old (won’t be 21 till September) second baseman was 3 for 4 (two singles & double) with two runs scored and four RBIs - 👀. Nikau is now hitting .313 for the season (20 for 64) with an OBP of .403 (he’s walked ten times) in 21 games played. Catcher Lou Albrecht was 2 for 4 (singles) with a walk and two runs scored. LHP Matt Osterberg pitched 4.2 innings (1 R, 9 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s - 88 pitches - 57 strikes) and RHP Estibenzon Jimenez pitched two scoreless frames in relief (1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 25 pitches - 18 strikes). Former Phillies minor leaguers Nick Ward (3B) - 1 for 3, HR, 3 walks, 3 RBIs, run scored, Jared Carr (CF) - 2 for 5 (singles) with a walk and run scored and Rixon Wingrove (1B) - 1 for 3 (single) with a walk and run scored were also in the thick of the offensive onslaught for the Giants.
Colombia Winter League :
12/21/24 action : former Phillies minor league LHP Jhordany Mezquita pitched five innings (0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s - 78 pitches - 45 strikes) for Caimanes de Barranquilla in an 8-5 loss to Vaqueros de Monteria (they scored 8 runs in the 8th inning). Jhordany is 2-0 in four starts (18 IP) with an ERA of 1.00 on the season with 16 K’s and 6 walks. The 26 year old last pitched in the Phillies organization in 2022, he had TJ surgery and missed the ‘23 season - last summer he pitched in the independent American Association league and is currently a free agent. Nolan Beltran went 2 for 4 (single & double) with a walk and two runs scored playing left field for Tigres de Cartagena in a 13-4 lopsided win against Toros de Sincelejo.
Dominican Winter League :
12/21/24 action : former Phillies minor league RHP Jimmy Cordero pitched a scoreless inning (1 H) for Leones del Escogido in a 5-4 loss to Aguilas Cibaeñas. All other games were postponed.
Venezuela Winter League :
12/21/24 action : Leandro Pineda (RF) was 1 for 4 (single) with an RBI for Navegantes del Magallanes in a 4-2 loss to Tigres de Aragua. Former Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis hit a two run home run for Aguilas del Zulia in a 7-6 loss to Cardenales de Lara. Pedro Martinez (2B) went 2 for 4 (double & HR) with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for Bravos de Margarita in a 12-9 win over Caribes de Anzoategui.
Mexican Pacific League :
12/21/24 action : former Phillies minor league RHP Robert Stock pitched five scoreless frames (2 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s - 81 pitches - 54 strikes) for Naranjeros de Hermosillo in a 1-0 victory against Algodoneros de Guasave. Stock has a 10-2 record for the season in 13 games with a 1.49 ERA and 1.07 WHIP - he’s struck out 75 batters and walked 34 in 78.1 IP. The 35 year old last appeared in the major leagues in 2021 with the Mets - he made 19 starts in the Mexican Summer League last year posting a 3.38 ERA in 98.2 IP with 104 K’s - is currently a free agent. Former Phillies minor league infielder Esteban Quiroz hit two home runs and posted five RBIs playing third base for Tomateros de Culiacán in a 5-2 win against Sultanes de Monterrey.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
12/21/24 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Jan Hernandez was 2 for 5 with an RBI for Gigantes de Carolina in a 5-2 loss to Leones de Ponce.
Nicaragua Winter League :
12/21/24 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Jiandido Tromp hit two home runs and posted five RBIs for Leones de Leon in a 10-4 win against Indios del Boer. Former Phillies minor league infielder Raul Rivas was 2 for 5 (singles) with a run scored and RBI for the Indios.
Panama Winter League :
12/21/24 action : all games were cancelled for a second consecutive day due to rain.
Other News :
Former Phillies RHP Enyel De Los Santos signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves.
