12/28/24 : Phillies sign Rafael Lantigua to a minor league contract

Rafael Lantigua (26 years old) has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies. He’s a utility player who played last season with AAA level Buffalo in the Toronto Blue Jays organization and posted a .265/.367/.336 slash line with 20 doubles, 4 home runs and 33 RBIs in 521 plate appearances. He played 2B, SS, 3B and all three outfield spots with Buffalo last season with most of his time at second base followed by shortstop.

Lantigua was originally signed by the Blue Jays in 2016 from the Dominican Republic. He’s spent his entire career thus far with the Toronto organization and has a career .277 batting average and .370 OBP in 680 minor league games (2,862 PA’s). He has not played in the major leagues as of yet.

Rafael has played winter league baseball for the Toros del Este this off season in the Dominican Winter League. He’s noted as a good contact hitter who has experience at every position except for catching and first base and has solid defensive instincts with a strong arm. He will compete for a minor league roster spot with AAA level Lehigh Valley this coming spring training camp.

From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Rafael!

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
