Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Australia Winter League :
The Phillies contingent plays for the Adelaide Giants.
12/28/24 action : double header
Game One : Adelaide 5 (15-11) Perth 2 (12-14) - seven innings
Catcher Lou Albrecht went 2 for 3 (singles) with a walk. Diego Gonzalez made his league debut going 1 for 3 with a single, run scored and RBI. Nikau Pouaka Grego was 1 for 3 with a single, walk and two RBI’s. Former Phillies minor league outfielder Jared Carr was 2 for 3 (singles) with a walk and run scored. Former Phillies minor league first baseman Rixon Wingrove was 1 for 3 with a single and walk.
Game Two : Adelaide 8 (16-11) Perth 0 (12-15)
LHP Matt Osterberg pitched very well - five scoreless innings (3 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s - 84 pitches - 57 strikes) and RHP Estibenzon Jimenez pitched three innings in an impressive performance retiring 9 of 10 batters faced - the only one who reached was on an error (six strikeouts - 37 pitches - 29 strikes) - the game announcers said he was consistently in the mid nineties with his fastball, he also changed speeds and mixed pitches well. Former Phillies minor league infielder Nick Ward (3B) was 3 for 5 (singles) with a walk, RBI and run scored while Jared Carr (CF) went 3 for 6 (singles) with two stolen bases, two runs scored and RBI and Rixon Wingrove (1B) went 3 for 4 (two singles & double) with an RBI. Nikau Pouaka Grego (2B) was 1 for 5 with a single and RBI.
Colombia Winter League :
12/27/24 action : Nolan Beltran (2B) went 1 for 4 with three runs scored, two walks and an RBI for Tigres de Cartagena in a double header sweep against Caimenes de Barranquilla in the final week of regular season play.
Panama Winter League :
12/27/24 action : Eduardo Tait DH) went 0 for 3 for Águilas Metropolitanas in a 3-0 loss to Los Atlánticos de Bocas del Toro y Colón in their final regular season game. The Águilas (9-12) finished third in the four team league and will play the Federales de Chiriquí (12-9) in a best of three semi-final playoff series beginning on 12/28/24 at 7 PM Panama time.
Mexican Pacific League :
12/27/24 action : former Phillies minor league RHP Ofreidy Gomez pitched a perfect inning in relief (1 K) for Cañeros de Los Mochis in a 7-3 win against Yaquis de Obregón. Luis Verdugo (SS) was 1 for 3 with a run scored and RBI for Tomateros de Culiacán in a 10-1 victory against Algodoneros de Guasave.
Dominican Winter League :
12/27/24 action : former Phillies second baseman Jean Segura went 2 for 4 (singles) with a walk, stolen base and run scored for
Leones del Escogido in a key regular season 8-2 win against Tigres del Licey. The Leones now have a magic number of two to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot. Former Phillies minor league RHP Jimmy Cordero pitched a perfect inning (1 K) to close out the game for the Leones.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
12/27/24 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Jan Hernandez went 2 for 5 (singles) for Carolina in a 5-1 win over Caguas. Cornelius Randolph (former Phillies minor league outfielder) went 2 for 3 (singles) with a walk and run scored for San Juan in a 6-3 loss to Santurce.
Nicaragua Winter League :
12/27/24 action : Raul Rivas (former Phillies minor league infielder) went 1 for 4 (single) with a walk and two runs scored for Indios del Boer in a 4-3 round robin playoff loss to Tigres de Chinandega.
Venezuela Winter League :
12/27/24 action : Wilson Ramos (former Phillies catcher) went 2 for 4 for the Bravos de Margarita in their opening game of the round robin playoff series - a 1-0 win over Navegantes del Magallanes. Leandro Pineda was 0 for 1 in a pinch hitting appearance for Magallanes. Former Phillies minor league RHP Felix Paulino picked up the win with an inning of relief work (0 R, 0 H, 1 BB). Former Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was 1 for 4 with a single, walk and run scored for Tigres de Aragua in a 11-7 playoff loss to Cardenales de Lara.
