Caribbean Series :
Venezuela (Tiburones de La Guaira) defeated the Dominican Republic (Tigres del Licey) 3-0 to win the Caribbean Series championship. They become the first Venezuelan team to win the title since 2009, it’s the 8th overall Caribbean Series championship for Venezuela. It’s the first Caribbean Series title for Tiburones de La Guaira. “Ozzie Guillén joins Tom Lasorda as the only managers to win a World Series and a Caribbean Series.” - Sarah Langs
Former Phillies RHP Ricardo Pinto was named the series MVP - he pitched 5.2 scoreless innings (4 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s) in the championship game for Venezuela. Ricardo made two starts in the series and pitched 10.2 innings allowing just one run (0.84 ERA) posting 14 strikeouts and 3 walks, he yielded 10 hits. Former Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was 1 for 2 with a double, run scored and RBI in the game for Venezuela. Odubel was a late addition to the roster and went 6 for 15 (.400) in the series.
The defending Caribbean Series champion was Tigres del Licey from the Dominican Republic. Other teams that participated this year included Naranjeros de Hermosillo (Mexico), Criollos de Caguas (Puerto Rico), Federales de Chiriqui (Panama), Gigantes de Rivas (Nicaragua), Curacao Suns (Curacao) and the 2024 champions - Tiburones de La Guaira (Venezuela).
Some other former Phillies in addition to Ricardo Pinto and Odubel Herrera who played in this year’s series included Vimael Machin and Danny Ortiz (Puerto Rico), Neftali Feliz, Jorge Alfaro, Emilio Bonifacio, Herlis Rodriquez (Dominican Republic),Didi Gregorius and Roger Bernadina (Curacao), Harold Arauz and Christian Bethancourt (Panama), Wilson Ramos (Venezuela) and Aaron Altherr (Mexico).
Jose Mayorga - former Phillies player and coach managed Panama to third place in the tournament and was named as the All Star Manager of the series.
