The next to last day of High Performance Winter Camp incorporated fielding, conditioning, hitting and pitching activities. Major League early arrivals got their work in on the Bowa half field in front of the stadium.
HPC Pitchers :
Side Bullpens : Seven Mounds area
Angel Liranzo, Luke Russo, Paxton Thompson, Marty Gair, Erubiel Armenta and Kevin Warunek.
Live Bullpens : Ashburn & Roberts Fields
Cody Stashak, Camron Hill, AJ Wilson, Ryan Degges, Erik Ritchie, Enrique Segura, Ethan Chenault, Zack Tukis, Jaydenn Estanista, Titan Hayes, Eli Trop, Kyler Carmack, Luis Avila, Ryan Dromboski and Danyony Pulido.
RHP Zack Tukis is intriguing - first time I’ve seen him throw, power stuff with easy motion, doesn’t force it - big fella who lets it fly - threw it by hitters today, also has a very sharp breaking ball, looked to have been a slider. The young man was signed as an un-drafted free agent from Millersville University this past summer. Also saw lefty Camron Hill on the mound for the first time, he showed a sneaky quick fastball and a nice offset in a split finger change up. He’s got a compact somewhat cross fire delivery that has deception - three quarter slot, was impressed. RHP Danyony Pulido is a big arm starting pitcher with mid to upper nineties heat - he grips the ball in his set up with a circle change four seam look and adjusts when he sets in his glove. The change up had fall away action, also showed what I believe was a slider, this young man has good stuff and should be fun to watch this summer - perhaps starting the year with Jersey Shore.
HPC Hitters :
Live BP hitters included Eduardo Tait, Jordan Dissin, Alirio Ferrebus, Justin Crawford, Otto Kemp, Aidan Miller, Leandro Pineda, Gabriel Rincones Jr, Brady Day, Carter Mathison, Kodey Shojinaga, Devin Saltiban, Griffin Burkholder, Carson DeMartini, Aroon Escobar, Dante Nori, Juan Villavicencio, Bryan Rincon and Hendry Mendez.
I watched the sessions on Roberts field - Jordan Dissin and Carson DeMartini hit home runs, Aroon Escobar hit an absolute moon shot off the top of the flag pole in left center field. Brady Day had a line drive single, Juan Villavicencio continued to hit the ball hard.
Big League Camp Early Arrivals :
Jesus Luzardo, Ranger Suarez, Zack Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez and Taijuan Walker reportedly threw side bullpen sessions on the mounds by the Bowa half field. Others threw as well. Alec Bohm is in camp early and was taking ground balls on the half field.
Other Notes :
Tomorrow (my wife Barb’s birthday!) will be the last day of High Performance Camp and the first official day for major league pitchers and catchers.
