2/3/25 : Today at the Complex - Winter HP Camp - Day Sixteen

Writer's picture: Steve PotterSteve Potter

Twelve High Performance Camp pitchers were on the seven mounds this morning throwing side bullpens - participants included Tristan Garnett, Micah Ottenbreit, Casey Steward, Alex McFarlane, Wesley Moore, Aaron Combs, Tommy McCollum, Luke Gabrysh, Mavis Graves, Gunner Mayer, Andrew Schultz and Jake Eddington.  They did up-downs today simulating two innings pitched. Pitchers who didn’t throw bullpens did PFP’s on Schmidt field.

Batting Practice :

Outdoor BP was held on Roberts Field with all of the HP Camp position players participating. In the sessions I saw Aroon Escobar continues to show easy power - when he hits em they sail high and long. Keaton Anthony hit the left center field scoreboard with one of his drives. Joel Dragoo continues to impress, quiet hands, explosive contact - consistent hard hit baseballs.

Fielding Drills :

Infield and outfield work on Ashburn Field - I watched from afar as I was positioned up by the Bowa half field watching bullpens. Aidan Miller continues to look strong at shortstop - displays all the skills required to play the position at any level.

Big League Early Work :

Aaron Nola threw his second outdoor side bullpen and Zack Wheeler made his first appearance with a bullpen session at the complex this morning on the mound area next to the Bowa half-field in front of the stadium.  Big league Manager Rob Thomson was on hand to observe.

Scouts Week :

The Phillies have their amateur scouting staff in town for the week led by Assistant GM - Amateur Scouting Brian Barber. I try to introduce myself to the scouts I haven’t chatted with yet and circle back with those I already know - I find that it’s always a great baseball conversation with the scouts, learn a lot and really enjoy chatting about the ball players in the system. I love baseball and so do these folks - very knowledgeable - good stuff.

Educational Accomplishments :

Congrats to Guillermo Rosario and Juan Villavicencio for testing out of English classes, as determined by the LSE program's English assessments! It’s a great accomplishment for them - life and working in a foreign country isn’t easy to do, especially when there’s a language barrier. The Phillies run a top notch program in teaching their foreign players English and also teaching the U.S. players Spanish. It’s a vital aspect of the development program to enable communication both on and off the field - really good stuff!

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
