2/6/25 : Today at the Complex - Winter HP Camp - Day Nineteen

Writer's picture: Steve PotterSteve Potter

Pitchers :

First live BP sessions of the season - Tristan Garnett, Casey Steward, Gunner Mayer, Mavis Graves, Wesley Moore, Micah Ottenbreit, Jake Eddington, Aaron Combs, Luke Gabrysh and Andrew Schultz threw.  Alex McFarlane and Tommy McCollum threw side bullpens.

Pitchers are generally ahead of hitters in early practices and that was often the case today. Lefty Tristan Garnett shined in his session - an over the top delivery with an outstanding change up that had hitters off balance with swings and even on takes attempting to pick up the pitch. He’s also got a fastball that is generally in the 92-94 mph range and a cutter which he also showed today. Plenty of Phillies brass on hand including big league skipper Rob Thomson. Tristan has legitimate big league stuff - should be a fun spring watching him perform,he’s put himself in position for big league consideration at the least.  Another lefty, Wesley Moore also had a strong outing - his delivery is much different than Tristan’s as he hides the ball with a three quarter arm slot - it looks like it is coming out of his shoulder upon release and is hard to pick up - he too has a top notch change up with plenty of darting movement. RH Casey Stewart was popping at 96 mph today in his session - he’s got an impressive five pitch mix and a bulldog mentality on the hill, in my humble opinion he’s a lock for an rotation spot with Reading to begin the year.

Hitters :

Justin Crawford arrived in camp today and took part in the live BP’s - also hitting was Eduardo  Tait, Griffin Burkholder, Dante Nori, Bryan Rincon, Otto Kemp, Aidan Miller, Leandro Pineda, Caleb Ricketts, Gabriel Rincones Jr, Keaton Anthony, Carson DeMartini and Hendry Mendez.

Otto Kemp lined a pitch down the left field line for a knock and Caleb Ricketts drove a ball to the left center field fence.

Catchers :

Angel Mata, Luke Davis, Paul McIntosh, Kehden Hettiger, Jordan Dissin, Alirio Ferrebus, Guillermo Rosario and Kodey Shojinaga caught the live BP’s.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
