Major leaguer Christopher Sanchez pitched six innings in his final ST tune-up setting him up to pitch in the Phillies rotation next week. As expected he was dominant.

Right fielder Leandro Pineda went 4 for 4 (singles) with two RBIs as he continues to have a very strong spring camp. First baseman Lou Helmig was 2 for 2 (singles) with an RBI. Third baseman Zach Arnold went 2 for 4 (singles) with an RBI. DH Ryan Leitch (1 for 4), first baseman Chad Castillo (1 for 3 with an RBI) and left fielder Troy Schreffler (1 for 4) each doubled. Shortstop Erick Brito (1 for 3 with a walk and stolen base) singled. Second baseman Trent Farquhar walked twice in two plate appearances.

Dakota Kotowski showed the power we saw all last season on the backfields - when the big fella connects it’s loud and the ball disappears into the sky - he hit two home runs in the contest. Major leaguer Orion Kerkering threw a perfect inning and heated it up into the upper nineties.

First baseman Dakota Kotowski went 2 for 4 (two HR’s - two RBIs) as did DH Luis Caicuto (two singles). Right fielder Pierce Bennett was 1 for 2 (single) with two walks in four plate appearances. Center fielder AJ Shaver (1 for 3 with a walk) and third baseman Diego Gonzalez (1 for 4 with an RBI) each singled. Shortstop Starlyn Caba walked once in four plate appearances and stole a base, he was also his usual smooth silky self defensively handling every chance hit his way.

Transactions :
Two players were released - outfielders Gavin Tonkel and Yhoswar Garcia. Both young men played for the FCL Phillies last season - “Tonk” was drafted in the 9th round of the 2021 draft out of Brentwood High School in California and Yhoswar was signed 3/14/20 as an international free agent from Guatire, Venezuela. We wish both young fellas well in their future endeavors.
