Second day for minor league Spring Training Camp. Off-day for Major League Camp.
Minor League Spring Trainjng Camp at Carpenter Complex :
The morning hours were consumed by meetings - todays’s field practices were held in the afternoon.
Side Bullpens : 17 pitchers
Matt Osterberg, Nelson Alvarez, Estibenzon Jimenez, Andrew Walling, Aaron Combs, Reese Dutton, Oscar Gonzalez, Andrew Bechtold, Kevin Warunek, Marty Gair, Joel Heredia, Adilson Peralta, Nate Karaffa, Pedro Reyes, Raymon Rosario, Braydon Tucker and Erubiel Armenta
Live BP : 13 pitchers
Casey Steward (2 IP), Juan Amarante (2 IP), Camron Hill, Alex McFarlane, Jonah Dipoto, Andrew Baker, Wilmer Blanco, Wesley Moore, Maxwell Hernandez, Daniel Harper, Jaydenn Estanista, Carlos Francisco, Augusto Calderon
Augusto Calderon has a quick, big velo fastball with a hard slider as well - mechanics look like they may need some tweaking as landing foot spot seemed inconsistent resulting in balls sailing out of the zone at times but stuff looks strong. I thought that Casey Steward threw really well, heavy ball and good zip, slider has great movement. Juan Amarante impressed with location, mix (including a big hook) and presence. I thought the ball came out of Alex McFarlane’s hand really well today and the pop on the fastball seemed livelier than the first time I watched him earlier this year. Daniel Harper and Andrew Baker have high impact and big velocity heaters - both also have put away sliders - Andrew has streamlined mechanics which I like - still gets a bit out of linear thrust on deliveries at times but has been much more consistent in his sessions this year. Jaydenn Estanista threw well - another big arm capable right hander. Wesley Moore’s release and arm speed on his changeup compared to the fastball has no differential - outstanding mechanics.
Live BP : 15 hitters
Zach Arnold, Raylin Heredia, Nikau Pouaka-Grego, Jordan Viars, Diego Gonzalez, Ricardo Rosario, Troy Schreffler, Robert Moore Jr, Cole Roberts, Jaeden Calderon, Raider Tello, Cade Fergus, Avery Owusu-Asiedu, Felix Reyes and Ethan Wilson
Felix Reyes swung the bat really well during live BP - consistently hit balls hard, I saw three knocks. Troy Schreffler laced a hard hit ball to the left center field gap for what a double. Jaeden Calderon impressed with bat speed turning a high velo fastball from Augusto Calderon for a double down the left field line. Cole Roberts sent a long drive to the left center field fence.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
