Word is that the Chicago Cubs are promoting RHP Ben Brown to the show. Ben was one of the most popular players and teammates when he was with the Phillies - very happy for him that he’s going to the big leagues! He was drafted by the Phillies in the 33rd round of the 2017 draft from Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, New York. Everyone who has met Ben comes away wishing only the best for him - great young man who’s now going to be in the show!
BTW - just in case ya were wondering there were twenty former Phillies who were either originally drafted or signed by the Phillies as either un-drafted free agents or international free agents on opening day major league rosters this year - here’s the list :
C Travis d’Arnaud
LHP Cole Irvin
RHP Mark Leiter Jr
RHP Hector Neris
RHP Carlos Carrasco
OF Matt Vierling
1B Jon Singleton
RHP James McArthur
C Logan O’Hoppe
OF Mickey Moniak
RHP Sixto Sanchez
LHP Hoby Milner
1B Rhys Hoskins
LHP Jake Diekman
LHP Bailey Falter
LHP Erik Miller
SS JP Crawford
LHP JoJo Romero
RHP Jacob Waguespack
3B Curtis Mead
The Phillies opening day roster included “home grown” talents Connor Brogdon, Seranthony Dominguez, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez, Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott and Johan Rojas. That brings the total of Phillies draft picks, un-drafted free agents or international signings on opening day rosters to 27 (20 draft picks & 7 international signings). Those totals are above the 2024 major league average for opening day rosters - good stuff!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
