Notes on today’s minor league callups :

OF Marcus Lee Sang - 24 years old  - 2019 11th round draft selection - Northern HS, Owings, MD - played the majority of the 2024 season at AA level Reading - was promoted to AAA Lehigh Valley on 9/5/24 and played two games with the IronPigs - overall he hit .241/.300/.396 in 435 plate appearances with 12 doubles, 5 triples, 13 home runs and 47 RBIs, stole 12 bases. Defensively he played 63 games in CF, 13 in LF and 20 in RF. He’s a very good defender in all three positions, gets great jumps and reads, has a strong and accurate arm and is sure handed. A left handed hitter and thrower with a quick bat, decent speed and the ability to drive the ball out of the park. Is a very popular teammate, pleasant personality, upbeat with a welcoming attitude and smile.  Works hard, is coachable and plays the right way.

Catcher Luis Caicuto - 22 years old - selected in the minor league portion of the 2023 Rule 5 draft from the Arizona Diamondbacks - was signed by Arizona on 7/2/19 from Lecheria, Venezuela - he began the 2024 campaign as the primary catcher with Low A Clearwater before being promoted to High A Jersey Shore on 6/11/24.  Defensively he’s well rounded and has displayed a quick release and strong accurate arm.  He’s shown coaches a great work ethic and always brings energy to the field.  Luis played for the Adelaide Giants in the Australian Baseball League this winter.

INF Erick Brito - 22 years old - signed as an international free agent 11/29/18 - Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela - played at two levels in 2024 - 70 games with Jersey Shore and 41 with Reading (promoted 7/16/24). Overall hit .243/.319/.326 with 22 doubles, 2 home runs, 30 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in 437 plate appearances.  Played defensively at 2B, SS and 3B in 2024 but has also played 1B and all three outfield spots.  Erick has made a steady progression in his pro career playing initially in the Dominican Summer League for two seasons before advancing to Clearwater in 2022 where he was the primary shortstop. In 2023 he began at Clearwater as the primary second baseman, was promoted to Jersey Shore on 6/13/23 and played mostly shortstop thereafter for the BlueClaws. We have seen him play all four infield spots, has shown good defensive skills and has made some spectacular plays as well, good range and decent arm wherever he plays.  Offensively has shown some pop, will generally give a good plate appearance each time, battles and has delivered some key hits.  He will surprise you with his power, we’ve seen him turn pitches around quickly and deep beyond the fences. Plays hard and smart baseball, knows how to win.

Pitchers :

RH Jack Dallas - 26 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent 8/1/22 - Lamar University -  He came to pro ball as no stranger to high pressure relief game spots as he graduated from Lamar as their all-time leader in saves and appearances.  In 2024 he began the year with High A Jersey Shore - appeared in 39 games (54 IP) posting a 3.50 ERA with 55 K’s and 18 walks - was promoted to Reading on 9/10/24 - pitched in two games - three innings pitched - one hit allowed with four K’s - a 0.33 WHIP - overall numbers - 41 appearances - 5-2 record - 57 IP, 59 K’s and 18 walks - a 3.32 ERA. His fastball, a sinker, generally is in the 91 to 94 mph range and he also features a cutter, slider, curve and change up. Gets tremendous spin/movement on his cutter and curve in particular, above the big league average. The movement on those pitches makes it very difficult for hitters to square them up. Is a great competitor and shows excellent composure in high impact game situations. He reminds me a great deal of Mark Leiter Jr in build, moxie and approach. His brother Chad is a pitching prospect in the Blue Jays organization.

RH Cody Stashak - 30 years old - signed as a minor league free agent 10/30/24 - was the 2015 13th round draft selection of the Minnesota Twins - St John’s University - is from Somers Point, NJ - appeared in 27 AAA level games in 2024 for the Giants affiliate in Sacramento in the hitter friendly PCL - 36.1 IP, 5.45 ERA, 44 K’s, 12 BB. Has pitched in 55 major league games (2019 to 2022) with the Minnesota Twins and has a career 4.13 ERA in 72 IP with 83 K’s and a minuscule 12 walks. He elected free agency in 2022 after being out-righted (was coming off of shoulder surgery for a torn labrum) and signed with the San Francisco Giants on 8/25/23 after initially pitching in the independent Atlantic League for the Lancaster Barnstormers. He features a low nineties four seamer, slider (uses as a primary pitch), change-up and last year the addition of a cutter. The south Jersey native has been a consistent strike thrower throughout his career, has strong mechanics, hides the ball well and is a strong competitor - he didn’t start pitching full time till college ball - played primarily shortstop as a high schooler.  He has options left and major league experience - valuable assets to have.

RH Gunner Mayer - 24 years old - 2019 5th round draft selection - San Joaquin JC, Stockton, CA - converted to a reliever in 2024 after being a starter during his first four seasons - spent most of this past year with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws - 41 appearances - 52.2 IP (4.10 ERA) with a 3-3 record and 4 saves in five chances - 68 K’s and 36 walks - promoted to Reading on 9/10/24 - appeared in two games - one unearned run in two innings pitched - 4 hits, no walks and 4 strikeouts.  Gunner converted to pitching in junior college after primarily playing shortstop in high school - he’s developed a lively pitch mix. Raw stuff has upper level potential, command and control have been issues to conquer. The fastball sits in a range of 90 to 94 mph - also throws a change up, slider and curve. Gets scouts attention with stuff, if combining it with increased pitch-ability that provides the potential to reach the top.

RH Paxton Thompson - 25 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent - 8/4/23 - University of Charlotte - before pitching for Charlotte he pitched a year at the University of Mary (North Dakota) and a year at Bradley University. Started the 2024 season with Clearwater - 19 appearances - 3.62 ERA in 27.1 IP with 30 K’s and 9 walks - promoted to Jersey Shore on 7/1/24 - was excellent at High A - 1.64 ERA in 16 appearances (22 IP) with 23 K’s and just 6 walks - had a 0.95 WHIP.  He’s a strike thrower who can pitch two inning stints (did so in 15 of his 34 games) - throws a cutter, sinker (90-93 mph), slider and change up.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
