Notes on today’s minor league callups :
Catcher Jordan Dissin - 22 years old - 2022 12th round draft pick - Saddleback Junior College, CA - played the majority of the 2024 season with High A level Jersey Shore - promoted to Reading on 9/6/24 for the last week of the season. Is an outstanding thrower - threw out 33 of 108 base stealers during the year. Offensively has pop (hit 9 home runs in 2024) - he had a very solid month of June hitting .300 with a .375 OBP showing the ability to get on base consistently - is a clutch hitter - drove in 41 runs - many in key game situations. Big frame who provides a good pitch target behind the dish, calls a decent game and has solid defensive mechanics. Played in the 2024 Arizona Fall League.
1B Carson Taylor - 25 years old - was selected by the Phillies in the minor league portion of the rule five draft on 12/6/23 from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Carson was the Dodgers 4th round draft selection in the 2020 draft from Virginia Tech University. He is well regarded for his ability to control the strike zone during his AB’s and making hard contact. Has raw power that produced 16 doubles, 3 triples, 16 home runs and 77 RBIs (led the minor league organization) between AA Reading and AAA Lehigh Valley in 2024 (promoted there on 9/17/24 - played in 6 games - .316/.519/.316 in 27 PA’s) and posted a very solid .279/.396/.458 overall slash line in 477 plate appearances.
INF Robert Moore - 22 years old - acquired in trade with Milwaukee Brewers for Oliver Dunn 11/14/23 - was the Brewers 2022 CB-B round draft pick - University of Arkansas - played in 107 games (435 plate appearances) for Reading in 2024 posting a .240/.323/.364 slash line with 20 doubles, 9 home runs, 41 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. Walked 39 times and struck out in 73 plate appearances. Defensively played 61 games at shortstop and 41 at second base. Has a high baseball IQ, plays smart baseball, good hands and shows patience as a hitter, generally won’t get himself out. He’s the son of Dayton Moore - former President of KC Royals
INF Bryan Rincon - 21 years old - 2022 14th round draft pick - Shaler Area High School , Pittsburgh, PA - spent most of the 2024 season at Carpenter Complex rehabbing from a hamstring injury (5/20 to 8/21). Played in a total of 35 games with Clearwater (rehab) and Jersey Shore - never got on-track from the injury time lost - played in 19 games in the Arizona Fall League - a total of 185 plate appearances for the year. He’s an excellent fielder at shortstop, has all the tools of a plus defender at the premium position. Offensively is a switch hitter who has strong bat to ball skills and a solid approach. He’s got pop, particularly from the left side - can turn on pitches as a lefty hitter, drives the ball. Has great energy and presence, really good eye-hand coordination and is baseball savvy.
INF Trent Farquhar - 24 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent 7/19/23 - Michigan State University - played at four levels in 2024 (3 games - FCL (rehab), 32 games - Clearwater, 38 games - Jersey Shore and 5 games - Reading) - was on the IL from 5/29 to 7/20 with a broken hamate bone - still managed to play in 78 games and posted a .285/.433/.374 slash line in 410 plate appearances with 15 doubles, 3 triples, a home run and 23 RBIs - walked 59 times versus 63 strikeouts - stole 28 bases - led off most games he played in. Defensively saw action at second base, shortstop and third base. So far in his pro career he’s been an on-base machine - this past summer I wrote a spotlight article on him and asked Trent about offensive approach - “For my approach I like to hunt fastballs in the middle of the plate early. However, I’m very comfortable hitting with one or two strikes so that allows me to be able to be picky early in the count and get a pitch I can drive. I’ve been blessed with good pitch recognition and being stingy to my approach.” He played winter league baseball in Australia as a member of the Adelaide Giants. A high baseball IQ and an ability to consistently get on base - both great qualities to have.
Pitchers :
RH Nelson Alvarez - 26 years old - acquired in trade with Tampa Bay Rays 8/6/24 for cash considerations - was the New York Yankees 2019 13th round draft selection - University of South Florida - pitched in 11 games (15.1 IP) with Reading recording a 1.76 ERA with 21 K’s and 7 walks - was promoted to Lehigh Valley on 9/19/24 and appeared in one game striking out the side in a perfect inning. Overall for the 2024 season including his time with the Rays AA and AAA affiliates he appeared in 39 games (51.2 IP) with a 3.48 ERA notching 62 K’s while walking 29. He features a fastball/sinker (93 to 96 mph), slider, cutter and curve. Was a minor league rule 5 selection by Tampa from the Yankees in December of 2022. Has battled control issues at times - is a strikeout pitcher.
RH Jaydenn Estanista - 23 years old - fast ball range of 93 to 96 mph and touches 97 mph - features a four seamer, slider, cutter and curve. Jaydenn has always been a pleasant young man to chat with - he had a solid 2024 season - as a reliever pitched in 31 games combined for Clearwater and Jersey Shore, was promoted to JS on 6/20/24. In 53.2 IP he recorded a 3.52 ERA (3.18 in JS in 22.2 IP with 27 K’s and 10 walks) and struck out 71 batters while walking 31. He posted three saves in three opportunities with the BlueClaws. It was a nice bounce back year after having some struggles in 2023.
RH Carlos Francisco - 25 years old - 2019 28th round draft selection - Hillsborough CC, Tampa, FL - appeared in 41 games with Reading in 2024 accumulating 54 innings with a 5.17 ERA - 52 K’s and 32 walks. Carlos has proven to be a workhorse reliever over his career. He also pitches winter league baseball in Puerto Rico before heading to spring camp including this past winter when he posted a 1.17 ERA in 21 appearances (23 IP) for league champion Mayaguez. Features a fastball (92-95 mph, reached 97), splitter (changeup) and slider, a power pitcher approach. From my perspective he’s always been a pitcher that’s intrigued me, an under the radar type that is attempting to make a path to the show by performing at a steady pace. He has a strong demeanor and work ethic and a sneaky fast heater offset by a splitter that’s got swing and miss qualities. Pitching Coordinator Travis Hergert : “An interesting bullpen arm that made strides in both his strike throwing and walk prevention but also his splitter usage. It can be a very effective pitch when ahead in the count to both handed hitters. He has a unique delivery that gives him some deception advantage.”
LH Wesley Moore - 25 years old - signed as an un-drafted free agent 11/9/22 - Kansas State University - opened the ‘24 season with a return to Jersey Shore (after making 25 appearances there to end 2023 - 1.91 ERA) and continued to dominate (9 appearances - 2.61 ERA). Was promoted to Reading on 5/7/24 - after three appearances was placed on the IL on 5/19/24 - returned to Jersey Shore on rehab assignment on 7/20/24 (made 3 appearances) and then activated by Reading on 7/30/24 where he finished the year making 16 appearances at the AA level - in his last nine games (9 IP) did not allow a run and only four hits while striking out seven batters. Wesley attended and played for Vauxhall High School in Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada as well as the Team Canada Junior National Team, pitched in the 18U World Cup as a teenager. He features a sinking fastball (sits in the 92 to 94 mph range) curve and changeup with the change being a plus pitch, it is a swing and miss delivery. He has repeatable mechanics and a very good speed differential with the change-up off the fastball. His release point and arm speed are aligned on all of his pitches, hides the ball, making it difficult to distinguish the various pitches out of his hand. Pitched in the Arizona Fall League appearing in 6 games (5.2 IP).
RH Jonah Dipoto - 28 years old - acquired in trade with KC Royals 5/26/24 for cash considerations - was the Royals 2019 35th round draft selection - University of California, San Diego, San Diego, CA - is the son of Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry DiPoto - pitched in 19 games with the 2024 IronPigs (22.2 IP) with a 4.37 ERA - 18 K’s, 12 walks. Prior to that he pitched in 10 games for Omaha in the Royals system - overall numbers for 2024 at the AAA level - 29 appearances (37 IP) with 31 K’s and 20 walks. He has a career 3.44 minor league ERA in 153 games (212 IP). He’s a fastball (91 to 94 mph), slider and cutter pitcher with the slider bring the standout delivery and the one most used (it has above average big league spin rates). He has battled command and control issues.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
