Drew Ellis (27 years old) has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies and has reported to the Player Development Center for training. Ellis was released by the Seattle Mariners on March 17th after participating in spring training as a non-roster invitee.
He was the 2nd round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2017 draft from the University of Louisville. Ellis has appeared in 35 major league games with the D’Backs and Mariners but has spent the brunt of his career in the minor leagues. Last season he hit 19 home runs and had 67 RBIs at the AAA level of play with Reno and Tacoma. Defensively the majority of his career has been as a third baseman however he has played the other three infield positions as well.
In addition to Ellis three players have been promoted from the Dominican Academy to the Player Development Center in Clearwater, infielder William Bergolla (eighteen years old), outfielder Raylin Heredia (nineteen years old) and RHP Saul Tehran (twenty one years old).
Darick Hall has joined the rehab group to begin his recovery work from recent thumb surgery.
The extended spring training game schedule begins on Tuesday when the Blue Jays will come to Carpenter Complex for a 1 PM matchup.
