4/20/25 : Phillies Minor Leagues : week in review (4/14 - 4/20)

International League (AAA) : Lehigh Valley (14-7)


The IronPigs went 3-3 at Gwinnett playing the Braves affiliate. RHP Mick Abel had a strong outing on Wednesday going 5.1 innings posting eight strikeouts yielding two runs - his fastball topped out at 98 mph and his slider was dominant. RHP Nasbil Crismatt posted six innings (2 R) on Friday in a win. Reliever RHP Koyo Aoyagi had a good week with three scoreless appearances (3.1 IP), after a rough start to his season the Japanese right hander has settled into a groove. RHP Joel Kuhnel also made three scoreless appearances (2.1 IP) and RHP Brett de Geus is throwing the baseball very well - he had two strong outings (2.2 IP - 1 unearned run) including going the last two frames Sunday to close out a win.


UTL Otto Kemp had another good week going 7 for 25 including a four hit game on Monday, he popped two home runs and three doubles during the series and posted seven RBIs. OF Justin Crawford had a four hit game on Thursday and was 9 for 23 (.391) with two doubles during the week. INF Buddy Kennedy went 8 for 22 (.364), OF Oscar Mercado 6 for 17 (.353) and UTL Rodolfo Castro 6 for 18 (.333).


Eastern League (AA) : Reading (5-10)


Reading went 2-4 in their six game series hosting Binghamton (Mets affiliate). INF Robert Moore had a three hit game on Tuesday including two home runs and was 5 for 13 (.385) for the week with seven RBIs while SS Aidan Miller posted three hits on Wednesday - Miller had a three run home run in Tuesday’s game - he was 7 for 23 (.304) in the series. OF Elio Prado went 6 for 19 (.316) with five RBIs.


RHP Eiberson Castellano threw three more scoreless frames in relief on Tuesday - in his two appearances during the week (he pitched again on Sunday) he went seven innings allowing one run on seven hits. RHP Jean Cabrera went five innings on Wednesday yielding one run while striking out seven. LHP Andrew Walling retired all four batters he faced that night to close out a win and threw another scoreless frame on Sunday. LHP Braeden Fausnaught posted a workmanlike five innings on Thursday (three runs allowed). RHP Griff McGarry gave up just two unearned runs in four innings of work on Friday. RHP Gunner Mayer made two scoreless appearances (3 IP - 3 K’s) in the series.


South Atlantic League  (High A) : Jersey Shore (5-10)


Jersey Shore was 2-4 in Greensboro (Pirates affiliate). OF/2B Dylan Campbell had a great week - three hits on Tuesday including two home runs and five RBIs and four hits on Friday with another five RBIs - he was 9 for 24 (.375) in the series with a double, triple, three home runs and eleven RBIs. Infielder Carson DeMartini had two three hit games (Tuesday & Thursday) and was 8 for 19 (.421) in the series with three doubles. Shortstop Bryan Rincon hit three home runs during the week. In his first BlueClaw AB after just being transferred from Clearwater on Thursday C/1B Kehden Hettiger homered. Catcher Luke Davis was 3 for 9 (.333) and walked seven times in the four games he played for a remarkable OBP of .647 in 17 plate appearances. Catcher Luis Caicuto was 4 for 8 with a double.


RHP Micah Ottenbreit pitched four scoreless frames on Monday but was placed on the seven day IL on Tuesday after being hit on the ankle during his outing.  RHP Jaydenn Estanista made two scoreless appearances (2.1 IP) in the series as did RHP Drew Garrett (2 IP). RHP Tommy McCollum pitched two scoreless innings in Thursday’s victory.


Florida State League (Low A)  : Clearwater (9-6)


Clearwater went 3-3 as the visiting team against Palm Beach (Cardinals affiliate). Center fielder Dante Nori and second baseman Aroon Escobar each had three hits on Tuesday at historic Holman Field in Vero Beach at the Jackie Robinson Training Center in a special celebration game in honor of the legendary number 42. Outfielder Avery Owusu-Asiedu hit four doubles in the series, he went 6 for 16 (.375) during the week. Aroon Escobar had two more three hit games on Saturday and Sunday and went 11 for 23 for the week (.478) with two doubles, two homers and four RBIs.  C/1B Kodey Shojinaga went 5 for 12 (.417) with four runs scored and five RBIs.


LHP Ranger Suarez threw 54 pitches in four innings (1 R) on Wednesday in his secind rehab appearance with the Threshers. RHP Sam Highfill continued to impress in that game by pitching the last 3.1 innings yielding no runs on just one hit. LHP Raymon Rosario pitched 1.2 scoreless frames in the game. RHP Enrique Segura pitched four innings on Thursday giving up two runs on four hits. RHP Andrew Painter threw three scoreless innings on Friday yielding three hits, no walks and striking out five. RHP Titan Hayes threw two scoreless innings of relief posting upper nineties velocity. RHP Marty Gair made his pro debut on Saturday with an inning of work in relief - he’s one to watch out for - upper nineties heat with capabilities of reaching triple digits. Right hander Ryan Dromboski (7.1 total IP) was excellent in two relief appearances yielding one run on four hits and no walks. RHP Ryan Degges (2 IP) pitched scoreless baseball in his relief outing this week.


Extended Spring Training - 3-2 for the week


Outfielder Griffin Burkholder had a strong week going 3 for 8 with a double and triple. Outfielder Isaias Dipre was 5 for 13 with a triple and home run. C/3B Yhoan Escolona 5 for 12 with a double and home run, C/2B Francisco Loreto 5 for 16 with two doubles and a triple and C Alirio Ferrebus 4 for 9 with two doubles.


Three relievers made two scoreless appearances during the week - LH Erubiel Armenta (3 IP, 1 H), RH Fernando Ramos ( 3 IP, 2 H, 6 K’s) and RH Eligio Arias (3 IP, 1 H).  RHP Brad Pacheco threw two scoreless frames in his outing with four strikeouts - the nineteen year old hit 97 mph on the radar - one to keep an eye on - big arm, big talent.
