4/9/25 : Today at the Complex - Extended Spring Training

I was on site to watch five pitchers throw live BP’s on Roberts Field, FCL Skipper Shawn Williams put some fielders in position as well including himself at first base - here are my notes.
Live Bullpens :
Wilmer Blanco, Alexander De Los Santos, Joel Heredia, Eligio Arias & Naoel Mejia
Notes on Live BP’s :
RH Wilmer Blanco - 21 years old - simple repeatable motion - initially holds hands by right ear - step, leg kick and throw - 3/4 slot - a little quicker FB than what I remember from last season - he did an up down two innings today - fastball range likely 92-94 - also has slider, curve and change up.
RH Alexander De Los Santos - just 18 years old - first time I’ve watched him - slightly built - holds hands in front - a coil and unwind windup delivery - high leg kick on some pitches - varied it - decent slider - FB likely 91-92 mph.
RH Joel Heredia - 21 years old - tall, lean and lanky - slinger like delivery - releases out front - slow and easy motion - slider with late break - falls off first base side on delivery - repeated an extended release on his slider - sweeper like action.
RH Eligio Arias - 21 years old - big body, lower 3/4 slot release - easy motion - a lot of upper body in delivery - lower half upright - slow curve - decent pop - change up used for swing and miss.
RH Naoel Mejia - 22 years old - big body - higher velocity FB (likely mid nineties) - long arm delivery - stays direct to target - brings arm behind body - 3/4 slot - slight curl in wrist on delivery of off speed - slow breaking slider - saw multiple release points on sliders - struggled with command - relies alot on upper body in delivery - didn’t see much in incorporating legs.
Hitters :
Cole Roberts had two singles, Rickardo Perez and Manolfi Jimenez singled. Catcher Yhoan Escolana hit an opposite field home run over the right field fence.
Fielding Gem :
Cole Roberts made a nice snag on a hard hit ground ball in the hole at shortstop and a long throw to first to end practice on a high note.
Other Notes :
The fellas in extended spring camp are here for different reasons but the enthusiasm they have displayed the past two days I’ve watched is invigorating. Besides the coaches, staff and security there’s only one outsider (me) on hand - I sit quietly by the side and observe - for a baseball fanatic it’s fun to watch.
