The Phillies have historically issued “Player of the Month” awards in two categories - Hitter and Pitcher. Below are a few nominations for the March/April awards 🤔🤓.
Hitter of the Month :
SS Aidan Miller (19 yrs old) - Clearwater - (2023 1st round draft selection - Mitchell High School, New Port Richey, FL) - in 62 plate appearances he posted a .309/.371/.491 slash line with a .862 OPS. Aidan had 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs. He stole 7 bases and scored 11 runs. He’s top 20 in the Florida State League in home runs, stolen bases and amongst those who qualify in batting average (8th), slugging (7th) and OPS (8th).
1B Carson Taylor (24 yrs old) - Reading - (acquired 12/6/23 in Rule 5 draft from LA Dodgers - was LA’s 2020 4th round draft selection from Virginia Tech University) - in 54 plate appearances he posted a .354/.426/.708 slash line with a 1.134 OPS. Carson had 3 doubles, a triple, 4 home runs and 18 RBIs with 5 walks and 2 stolen bases. He’s in the top 15 in the Eastern League in home runs, RBIs (2nd) and is just two PA’s short to qualify for the league leaders else would be top five in batting average for those that qualify, as well as OBP, slugging and OPS.
LF/RF Gabriel Rincones Jr (23 yrs old) - Reading - (2022 3rd round draft selection - Florida Atlantic University) - in 60 plate appearances he posted a. .300/.417/.600 slash line with a 1.017 OPS. Gabriel had 3 doubles, 4 home runs and 5 RBIs, he walked 10 times, scored 13 runs and stole 4 bases. He’s in the top fifteen in the Eastern League in runs, home runs, batting average for those qualified (12th), OBP (6th), slugging (5th) and OPS (3rd).
INF Trent Farquhar (23 yrs old) - Clearwater - (signed as an un-drafted free agent 7/1/23 - Michigan State) - in 57 plate appearances he posted a .310/.474/.524 slash line with a .998 OPS. Trent had 4 doubles, a triple, a home run and 6 RBIs with 13 walks and 5 stolen bases. He’s in the top 10 in the Florida State League in walks and is just two plate appearances short to qualify else would be in the top ten amongst those who qualify in batting average, OBP, slugging and OPS.
1B Keaton Anthony (22 yrs old) - Clearwater - (signed as an un-drafted free agent 7/18/23 - University of Iowa) - in 63 plate appearances posted a .306/.460/.367 slash line with a .827. OPS. Keaton had 3 doubles, 9 RBIs and 12 walks while striking out just 10 times. He’s top ten amongst qualified players in the Florida State League in batting average (9th) and OBP (3rd) and top 15 in OPS (12th). Keaton is also in the top 15 in the league in walks.
CF Justin Crawford (20 yrs old) - Jersey Shore - (2022 1st round draft selection - Bishop Gorman High School , Las Vegas, NV) - in 77 plate appearances he posted a .284/.377/.418 slash line with a .795 OPS. Justin had a double, triple and two home runs in 17 games played with 11 runs scored, 9 walks and 8 stolen bases. He’s top twenty in the South Atlantic league in runs, hits (19), stolen bases, batting average amongst those who qualify (16th) and OBP (14th).
OF Jordan Luplow (30 yrs old) - Lehigh Valley - (signed as a minor league free agent 3/16/24) - in 95 plate appearances posted a .381/.432/.643 slash line with a 1.075. OPS. Jordan had 7 doubles, 5 home runs, 18 RBIs, 20 runs scored, 8 walks and 5 stolen bases. He’s top 20 in the International League in runs (8th), hits (4th with 32), home runs and 1st amongst qualified players in batting average, 13th in OBP, 6th in slugging and OPS (5th).
OF David Dahl (30 yrs old) - Lehigh Valley - (signed as a minor league free agent 2/19/24) - in 61 plate appearances posted a .346/.443/.596 slash line with a 1.039 OPS. David had 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs, 8 runs scored and 9 walks.
3B/2B Otto Kemp (24 yrs old) - Clearwater/Jersey Shore - (signed as an un-drafted free agent 8/1/22 - Point Loma Nazarene University, Point Loma Nazarene, CA) - in 57 appearances he posted a .348/.456 /.500 slash line and a .956 OPS. Otto had 2 doubles, a triple, home run and 8 RBIs with 5 walks and 5 stolen bases.
Pitcher of the Month :
RH George Klassen (22 yrs old) - Clearwater - (2023 6th round draft choice - University of Minnesota) - made four starts - 21 IP, 1 unearned run, 0.00 ERA, 0.57 WHIP, .103 BAA, 32 K’s, 5 BB - is tied for 1st in the Florida State League in ERA, 1st in WHIP, 1st in BAA amongst qualifying pitchers and is also 6th in IP and 3rd in K’s.
LH Samuel Aldegheri (22 yrs old) - Jersey Shore - (signed as an international free agent - 7/2/19 - Verona, Italy) - made three starts - 15.1 IP, 1 unearned run, 0.00 ERA, 0.59 WHIP, .102 BAA, 21 K’s, 4 BB - he’s just a couple innings short of qualifying for the league leaders else would be 1st in ERA, BAA & WHIP amongst qualified players. He’s top 20 in K’s in South Atlantic League.
RH Jean Cabrera (22 yrs old) - Jersey Shore - (signed as an international free agent - 7/2/19 - Maracay, Venezuela) - made 5 starts - 28 IP, 7 earned runs, 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, .210 BAA, 30 K’s, 7 BB. 1st in South Atlantic League in IP, 4th in K’s, 12th in ERA and 9th in WHIP amongst qualified players
LH Braeden Fausnaught (24 yrs old) - Jersey Shore - (signed 8/1/22 as an un-drafted free agent - West Chester University) - made 4 starts - 20.2 IP, 4 R - 1 earned, 1.74 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, .197 BAA, 19 K’s, 6 BB. 9th in South Atlantic League in IP, 15th in K’s, 8th in ERA, 10th in WHIP and 11th in BAA amongst qualified players.
RH Luke Russo (23 yrs old) - Clearwater - (2023 16th round draft selection - Eastern Michigan University) - made four starts - 18 IP, 5 earned runs, 2.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, .159 BAA, 25 K’s, 11 BB. Amongst those that qualify Luke is 6th in the Florida State League in BAA, 9th in ERA and 10th in WHIP. He’s 7th in the league in K’s and 11th in IP.
RH Micah Ottenbreit (20 yrs old) - Clearwater - (2021 4th round draft selection - Trenton High School, Trenton, MI) - 2.03 ERA in 3 starts (13.1 IP) with 18 K’s and 6 BB, 1.20 WHIP and .204 BAA
RH Casey Steward (22 yrs old) - Clearwater - (2023 19th round draft selection - Washburn University, KS) - 1.10 ERA in 4 appearances (3 starts) in 16.1 IP, 1.10 WHIP, .200 BAA, 11 K’s, 7 BB.
RH Michael Mercado (25 yrs old) - Lehigh Valley - (acquired in trade with Rays 11/6/23 - was Rays 2nd round draft choice in 2017 draft) - made 6 appearances (2 starts) posting a 0.00 ERA in 13 IP with 11 K’s and 4 walks - had a 0.77 WHIP and .136 BAA.
