Perseverance is sometimes rewarded. For those of you that visit this page regularly you are aware of my ongoing endeavors to track former Phillies in their ongoing baseball careers. I have some good news to share for a couple recent former Phillies!
Infielder Jamari Baylor had his contract purchased yesterday by the Toronto Blue Jays organization from the independent Atlantic League’s York Revolution. Jamari was the Phillies 3rd round draft selection in the 2019 draft from Benedictine High School in Richmond, VA. He was traded to the Rockies organization on 5/6/23 where he was later released on 8/23/23. Jamari signed with the York franchise this offseason and played in 15 games for them hitting 3 home runs and posting 12 RBIs before the Blue Jays signed him. Congrats to Jamari - he’s just 23 years old, wishing him success with the Toronto organization.
Infielder Drew Ellis signed with the Phillies on 4/16/23 as a free agent with AA Reading as the targeted home for him, initially he trained at the complex and played in a few extended spring training games. The former 2nd round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2017 draft exceeded expectations by ascending all the way to the show where he played in 12 games with the Phillies and contributed 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. He spent most of the season with the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs hitting 13 home runs in 70 games played there. Drew became a free agent this off-season and when no major league teams came knocking he signed with the independent Atlantic League’s Charleston Dirty Birds where he played in ten games before the Los Angeles Angels purchased his contract on 5/6/24. Drew (28 yrs old) is now playing for the Angels AAA affiliate Salt Lake Bees and has appeared in seven games. He’s a class act whom I remember bought the complex staff and players lunch from Chick Fill-A last summer before he departed to Reading. We wish him another climb to the show!
Just sayin
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
