International League ( AAA ) - Columbus 5 (21-33) Lehigh Valley 2 (21-32)

Columbus, OH - Huntington Park


Summary :


José Tena homered for Columbus in the first inning.   George Valera homered for them in the second frame.


Mick Abel left the game in the bottom of the fifth with the trainer - there was a noticeable decrease in his velocity during the inning. Follow up - no injury related concern.


Two singles, a walk and ground out scored a run for Columbus in the 5th inning.


Darick Hall walked in the 7th inning and scored on a home run by Weston Wilson.


Columbus scored a run in the 8th on a walk, hit batter and single.


At Bat : 2 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 13 K’s


Weston Wilson homered.


On The Hill :  5 R, 10 H, 7 BB, 7 K’s


Mick Abel pitched four innings - 3 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 2 K’s - 76 pitches - 47 strikes.  Tyler Gilbert went two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 37 pitches - 21 strikes - stranded 2 of 3 inherited runners.  Yunior Marte pitched two innings - 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 42 pitches - 20 strikes.

Scott Kingery posted his third multi-homer game of the season on Thursday in game two. He's tied for the team lead with 11 dingers and has hit double digit homers in back-to-back seasons for the first time in his career. The three multi-HR games also ties a career-high as he had three such games back in 2017 when he hit a career high 26 homers across Double-A and Triple-A.


Eastern League ( AA ) - Hartford 6 (26-22) Reading 4 (20-29)

Summary :


Carlos De La Cruz singled in the second inning, Kendall Simmons walked.  Trevor Schwecke doubled to score a run.


A single, ground out, single and a triple scored three runs for Hartford in the bottom of the second.


Trevor Schwecke doubled in the 4th inning, stole third base and scored on an error.


A double and single scored a run for Hartford in the bottom of the fourth.


A walk, double, single and sacrifice fly scored two runs for Hartford in the 5th inning.


A single and double scored a run for Hartford in the 7th inning.


Kendall Simmons singled in the 8th and scored on a double by Bryce Ball.


On The Hill : 6 R, 10 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s


Kolby Allard went four innings - 4 R, 7 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s - 59 pitches - 42 strikes.  Efrain Contreras pitched four innings - 2 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 58 pitches - 41 strikes.


At Bat : 4 R, 7 H, 6 BB, 11 K’s


Trevor Schwecke hit two doubles. Robert Moore, Jose Rodriguez and Bryce Ball each doubled.

This Day in Baseballtown History :  May 31, 2000: At Reading, the Phillies score 10 in the 3rd and swamp Binghamton, 11-0. Nick Punto, David Francia and Jason Michaels each have two hits in the huge inning. Geoff Geary fans 12 in 6.0 shutout innings for the win and Joe Cotton tosses the final 3 innings for the save.

Summary :


Erick Brito doubled in the first inning, Otto Kemp walked.  Cade Fergus tripled to score two runs.  A passed ball scored Fergus.


Justin Crawford singled in the 5th, stole second base and scored on a double by Otto Kemp.


Stanley Consuegra hit a two run home run for Brooklyn in the 6th inning.


Jordan Dissin homered in the 7th inning.


Emaarion Boyd walked in the 8th inning and scored on a double by Zach Arnold.  Troy Schreffler singled  to score Arnold.


On The Hill : 2 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 19 K’s 👀.


Eiberson Castellano pitched 5.2 innings - 2 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 13 K’s 👀 - 96 pitches - 57 strikes - great outing for the big right hander.   Andrew Walling went 1.1 innings - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - stranded 2 inherited runners - 19 pitches - 10 strikes. Daniel Harper pitched a perfect inning - 2 K’s - 14 pitches - 9 strikes.   Charles King pitched a perfect ninth inning - 2 K’s - 10 pitches - 7 strikes.


At Bat : 7 R, 10 H, 5 BB, 6 K’s


Erick Brito had three hits (two singles & double).  Leandro Pineda, Zach Arnold and Otto Kemp doubled, Kemp also walked twice.  Cade Fergus tripled.  Jordan Dissin homered.

Hendry Mendez has made a strong impression since joining the Phillies organization in November from Milwaukee (with 2B Robert Moore for IF Oliver Dunn).  He enters today at .299 on the season and at .310 in May (13-42).  He is 12-36 since May 4th and has seven multi-hit games on the season…Mendez is 20 years old (and won’t turn 21 until November 7th).


Florida State League ( Low A )  - Clearwater 3 (34-15) Lakeland 2 (31-18)

Summary :


A walk, fielder’s choice, fielding error (2nd baseman Devin Saltiban) and ground out scored a run for Lakeland in the 5th inning.


Bryson Ware homered in the seventh inning.


The game went into rain delay in the top of the 8th inning at 8:12 PM.  Play resumed about an hour later.


Lakeland scored x runs in the 8th inning on a hit batter and three walks.


Jordan Viars singled in the bottom of the 8th, went to third on a single by Raylin Heredia and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pierce Bennett.


Bryson Ware singled in the 9th inning, Kehden Hettiger walked.  Raylin Heredia singled to score Ware with the walk-off game winner!


On The Hill : 2 R, 7 H, 6 BB, 8 K’s


George Klassen pitched four innings -0 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s - 60 pitches - 45 strikes.  Hitters swung early in the count against him.    Jonh Henriquez pitched two innings - 1 unearned R, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K - 34 pitches - 16 strikes.  Drew Garrett pitched an inning - 0 R, 0H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 17 pitches - 9 strikes.  Saul Teran pitched two innings - 1 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 K - 44 pitches - 23 strikes.

Bryson Ware had three hits (two singles & HR) and walked once.  Raylin Heredia had two hits including the game winner. Aidan Miller walked twice.


Defensive Gem :


Right fielder Raylin Heredia gunned down a runner at third base attempting to go first to third on a ground single to right field - a laser throw cut him down!

The Threshers last night recorded the most hits (17) and runs (15) in a game this season. Clearwater has set a new season-high in hits and runs on each of the past two Thursday games


Florida Complex League - FCL Blue Jays 6 (5-15) FCL Phillies 5 (10-10)

Summary :


A walk, double and ground out scored two runs for the Blue Jays in the second inning.


Eduardo Tait doubled in the 4th inning, he scored on a single by Yemal Flores.  AJ Shaver doubled to score Flores.


Enmanuel Bonilla homered for the Blue Jays in the 6th inning.  A single, stolen base and single scored a run for them in the seventh frame.


Aroon Escobar reached on a fielding error in the bottom of the seventh, he scored on a triple by Guillermo Rosario. Rickardo Perez reached on a fielder’s choice on which Rosario scored.


A hit batter, walk, balk and double scored two runs for the Blue Jays in the 8th inning.


Eduardo Tait singled in the 9th inning and advanced to third on a single by Rickardo Perez.  Tait scored on a groundout by Juan Villavicencio.


On The Hill : 6 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 14 K’s


Ezequiel Segura pitched six innings- 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K’s.  Kleyderve Andrade went 1.1 innings - 3 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s.  Luis Avila pitched 1.2 innings, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s.


At Bat : 5 R, 10 H, 4 BB, 9 K’s


Yemal Flores went 2 for 2 with 2 walks, a run scored and RBI.  Eduardo Tait had three hits (two singles & double).  AJ Shaver and Juan Villavicencio each doubled.  Guillermo Rosario tripled.
