5/4/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Lehigh Valley 6 (14-14) Syracuse 4 (14-15)

Syracuse, NY - NBT Bank Stadium


Summary :


DJ Stewart hit a home run for Syracuse in the second inning.


Jim Haley singled in the third inning, went to third on a single by Simon Muzziotti and scored on a sac fly by Dustin Peterson.


Jhailyn Ortiz doubled in the fourth inning, he scored on a single by Aramis Garcia.   Weston Wilson hit a two run home run in the fifth inning.


Syracuse scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a single, wild pitch, balk and sac fly.


DJ Stewart hit his second home run of the game in the 6th inning.


Weston Wilson and Jhailyn Ortiz walked in the 7th inning, they moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Scott Kingery.  A fielding error allowed Wilson to score.


Jhailyn Ortiz singled to score Jake Cave (walked, advanced to second on an error) in the eighth inning.


Syracuse scored a run in the bottom of the 8th on an RBI double by Jaylin Davis.


On the Hill :


Noah Skirrow went six innings.  Jakob Hernandez pitched a scoreless seventh.  Erich Uelmen pitched a perfect ninth inning to seal the win.


At the Bat :


Jhailyn Ortiz went three for four (two singles & a double).  Jim Haley had two singles.  Jake Cave doubled, Weston Wilson homered.

Summary :


Carlos De La Cruz hit a home run 110 mph into the left field seats (391 feet) in the first inning.  Johan Rojas walked and scored on a double by Ethan Wilson.


Max McDowell and Wendell Rijo singled in the second inning, Madison Stokes doubled to score McDowell.


Zac Veen doubled for Hartford in the second inning, went to third on s single by Ronaiker Palma.  Colin Simpson singled to score Veen.


Kyle Datres hit a two run home run for Hartford in the third inning.


Johan Rojas singled in the 8th inning, stole second, went to third on a throwing error and scored on a single by Ethan Wilson.


Hunter Goodman hit a two run walk off home run for Hartford in the bottom of the ninth inning.


On the Hill :


Tyler Phillips pitched six innings, his fastball was consistently in the 94 to 96 mph range and he once again had a swing and miss curve ball.  Andrew Schultz and Keylan Killgore each pitched a perfect inning of relief.


At the Bat :


Carlos De La Cruz, Johan Rojas, Ethan Wilson and Wendell Rijo each had two hits.  Wilson and Madison Stokes each doubled, Carlos De La Cruz homered.

Lopsided Wins - Reading has picked up three lopsided vicories in its last three series. The R-Phils had a 10-1 win at Portland two-weeks ago, an 11-5 win against Altoona last week and a 12-6 victory last night. With those victories, Reading came into tonight’s game with a +2 run differential this season and leads the league in hitting at .252. South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Jersey Shore 7 (10-10) Hickory 5 (11-11) - eleven innings

Summary :


Josh Hatcher hit a three run home run for Hickory in the third inning. Cody Freeman hit a two run home run.


Hao Yu Lee hit a home run for Jersey Shore in the fourth inning.


Anthony Quirion doubled in the fifth inning and scored on a single by Jared Carr.


Marcus Lee Sang walked in the 6th inning, moved to second on a single by Rixon Wingrove and scored on a double by Anthony Quirion. Wingrove scored on a wild pitch.


Marcus Lee Sang and Anthony Quirion walked in the seventh inning, Jared Carr singled to score Lee Sang.


Hao Yu Lee singled to score placed runner Nick Ward in the 11th inning.   Lee moved to second base on a ground out and scored on a single by Rixon Wingrove.


On the Hill :


Jason Ruffcorn, Carlos Francisco and Rodolfo Sanchez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief behind starter Matt Osterberg who went four. Matt Russell pitched a scoreless 8th, 9th and 10th innings. Cam Wynne completed the comeback win with a scoreless 11th inning.  The bullpen tossed seven consecutive scoreless frames!


At the Bat :


Hao Yu Lee had four hits (two singles, triple, home run), Anthony Quirion (two doubles), Rixon Wingrove (two singles) and Jared Carr (two singles) had two hits each.


Defensive Gem :


Right fielder Marcus Lee Sang threw out a runner at the plate to end the second inning.

Summary :


Lakeland put runners at first and third in the second inning (singles by Manuel Sequera & Mike Rothenberg) and executed a double steal with Sequera scoring.


Bryan Rincon and Freylin Minyety singled in the 5th inning, Cade Fergus singled to score Rincon.


The game went into extra innings tied at one apiece.


Moises Valero was the placed runner for Lakeland in the 10th, he advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Seth Stephenson.


Erick Brito singled in the bottom of the 10th, Ricardo Rosario put down a sacrifice bunt to move placed runner Cade Fergus and Brito to second and third base.  With two outs Jordan Dissin hit a walk off single to plate two runs and deliver Clearwater’s tenth consecutive win!


On the Hill :


Alex Rao started and pitched three innings yielding one run on two hits and two walks, he struck out four batters.  Jean Cabrera pitched three scoreless innings, looked really good, fastball was popping, he struck out six batters and allowed only one hit and one walk.  Jack Dallas went two scoreless frames, no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Caleb Ricketts hit two doubles. Freylin Minyety had two singles.
