Did Ya Know 🧐  :  A constant in the process of Andy Painter’s return has been the presence of Minor League Rehab Pitching Coordinator Aaron Barrett. He coached him thru the rehab regimen at Carpenter Complex in Clearwater, accompanied and guided him thru his stint in the Arizona Fall League, was in the dugout with him during his time this year with the Clearwater Threshers and is now alongside in Allentown with the IronPigs. Aaron has experienced the return process from a significant injury first hand as he did it himself as a pitcher with the Washington Nationals. In my opinion his role is to help keep Painter focused and to teach thru the hype of the process of returning, to deal with both the highs and lows of doing so. Mechanically I also believe it’s important to have Andy make multiple appearances at the AAA level using the Major League Baseball utilized at this level, it’s a harder, more tightly seamed ball as compared to the one used at the other levels. I’ve heard it described as being akin to getting used to throwing a rock, higher velocities are achievable but mastering spin, control and command are distinct. As the goal is to have Painter ultimately reach and pitch in the major leagues it entirely makes sense to get used to throwing the Major League rock.
