A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.
Lehigh Valley :
The IronPigs went 5-1 hosting Norfolk, they are 34-39 overall - the first half of the season concluded on Sunday. Johan Rojas went 8 for 22 with a double, home run and two RBIs in his first week playing at the AAA level. Weston Wilson was 7 for 21 with a double, four home runs and ten RBIs. Buddy Kennedy was 8 for 19 with a double and two home runs - he’s riding an eleven game hitting streak over which he’s 16 for 40 (.400). Cal Stevenson went 5 for 13 in the four games he played. Ruben Cardenas hit two home runs and posted six RBIs. Kody Clemens was 4 for 11 with two doubles and a home run and Scott Kingery had four hits and four walks in 19 plate appearances (.421 OBP).
RHP Michael Mercado pitched his longest outing of the season on Tuesday going six innings allowing three runs to post a win. He was called to the majors on Sunday for the first time. RH reliever Max Lazar continued to shine with three more scoreless appearances - he hasn’t yielded a run in his last 14 games covering 16.2 innings over which he’s struck out 19 batters. Max puts me in mind as a right handed version of long time major leaguer Hoby Milner. David Buchanan made two appearances tossing 6.2 innings yielding just two runs.
Reading :
Reading went 3-2 at New Hampshire, they are 31-37 overall - the first half of the season concluded on Sunday. Marcus Lee Sang went 6 for 20 with two home runs and six RBIs. Carson Taylor was 7 for 18 with a double and four RBIs. Baron Radcliff was 3 for 11 with two walks and a home run in 13 plate appearances (.385 OBP). RHP Robinson Pina went five innings in his start on Friday allowing two runs to earn his 8th win of the season. He’s posted a 3.50 ERA in 61.2 innings to date.
Jersey Shore :
The BlueClaws went 4-2 at Brooklyn, they are 40-29 overall and 2-1 in the second half. Jordan Dissin was 3 for 10 with a double and home run. William Bergolla was 4 for 13 with four walks for a .471 OBP in 18 plate appearances. Emaarion Boyd was 5 for 17 with a double, triple and two walks (.400 OBP). Aidan Miller had four hits and four walks in 23 plate appearances (.391 OBP) and Felix Reyes posted a double,a home run and five RBIs.
RHP Jean Cabrera pitched six scoreless innings striking out eight batters in his start on Wednesday. RHP George Klassen pitched five no hit, no run innings striking out eight on Saturday. LHP Sam Aldegheri struck out nine in five innings, RHP Eiberson Castellano struck out seven in five innings. The bullpen (RH Jack Dallas, RH Trey Dillard, LH Danny Wilkinson, LH Andrew Walling, RH Andrew Baker, RH Gunner Mayer, RH Daniel Harper, RH Estibenzon Jimenez, LH Mason Ronan, RH Jaydenn Estanista and LH Benyony Robles) pitched twenty-four innings during the week yielding six runs - the pitching staff threw two shutouts.
Clearwater :
The Threshers went 4-2 at Jupiter, they are 44-25 overall and 1-2 in the second half. Clearwater claimed the Florida State League first half West division championship on Wednesday finishing ahead of second place Lakeland by a half game. They won seven consecutive games to close the half and eight overall before the streak ended Friday. Diego Gonzalez was 5 for 15 with two doubles and three RBIs. The pitching staff held Jupiter to eleven runs total in six games including two shutouts. Clutch performances were delivered by LH Mavis Graves (6 scoreless frames - 10 K’s), RH Luke Russo (5.1 scoreless innings), RH Jose Pena Jr (1.2 scoreless innings - 4 K’s), RH Jaydenn Estanista (2 scoreless innings), RH Jonathan Petit (1 IP - save on Tuesday) and RH Saul Teran (2 scoreless innings - 4 K’s - save on Wednesday in clincher) in the week’s first three games to win the title. RHP Enrique Segura pitched six innings allowing two runs and striking out six batters in his start on Friday to claim his first win as a Thresher. RH Ethan Chenault made two scoreless appearances - 3 IP, 1 H, 7 K’s.
FCL Phillies :
The FCL Phillies went 1-5 during the week, they are 19-16 for the season. Catcher Eduardo Tait was 6 for 15 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs. Infielder Nolan Beltran was 4 for 11 and also had five walks for a .563 OBP. RHP Orlando Gonzalez pitched four scoreless innings on Saturday - in two stateside outings to date he’s posted nine scoreless frames with seven strikeouts.
Dominican Summer League :
Phillies Red was 0-6 and Phillies White 2-4 for the week, they are 4-10 and 5-9 respectively for the season. Shortstop Maylerson Casanova was 6 for 17 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs for Phillies Red. Recently signed (6/15/24) twenty-one year old Cuban born RHP Fernando Ramos was dominant in his first two appearances for Team Red - four innings - no runs or hits, one walk and five strikeouts - fastball touched 97 mph. For Phillies White sixteen year old shortstop Jose Famila reached base nine times in nineteen plate appearances with four hits, five walks and four stolen bases. RHP Elicier Bata threw six scoreless frames over two appearances for Team White.
Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :
Multiple players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team. This week RHP Andrew Painter threw two limited side sessions while Christian McGowan threw a limited side session on Saturday. RHP Alex Garbrick and LHP Jordan Fowler threw side sessions early in the week and live BP sessions at week’s end. RHP Wen Hui Pan made his first rehab game outing pitching an inning for the FCL Phillies on Friday. Pitchers Jake Eddington and Dominic Pipkin each made two rehab appearances for the FCL Phillies. All played continued conditioning work.
