6/29/24 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 10 (3-2, 37-41) Durham 4 (2-3, 38-42)

Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Durham, NC


Summary :


A double and single scored a Durham run in the first inning.  A single, walk, single and fielding error scored two runs for them in the third.


Scott Kingery singled in the third, Cal Stevenson walked.  Nick Podkul hit a three run home run.  Weston Wilson singled, Buddy Kennedy and Ruben Cardenas walked.  Wilson scored on a ground out by Darick Hall.


Darick Hall homered in the fifth inning.


Cal Stevenson doubled in the 6th and scored on a single by Nick Podkul.  After two walks loaded the bases Ruben Cardenas doubled to plate three runs.


A double, walk and catching error by first baseman Aramis Garcia scored a run for Durham in the 8th.


Catcher Rob Brantley pitched the 9th inning for Durham.  Scott Kingery homered.


At Bat : 10 R, 11 H, 6 BB, 12 K’s


Scott Kingery (two singles and a HR ) had three hits. Ruben Cardenas (single & double, walk, three RBIs) and Nick Podkul (single & HR - four RBIs) each had two hits. Darick Hallhomered. Cal Stevenson doubled.


On The Hill : 4 R, 10 H, 4 BB, 8 K’s


David Parkinson pitched four innings - 3 R - 2 earned, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 56 pitches - 33 strikes.  David Buchanan pitched 4 innings - 1 unearned R, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s - 74 pitches - 45 strikes - he’s transitioned to a bulk reliever in case needed at the next level in that role.  Andrew Bellatti  pitched a perfect inning - 1 K - 13 pitches - 9 strikes.

Ruben Cardenas smacked two homers and drove in six runs in his 'Pigs debut and has been off and running ever since. He homered three times in his first three games with LHV, and picked up a hit in each of the first five games he played as an IronPig as well. Cardenas was dealt to the Phillies from Tampa Bay in exchange for cash on June 6. He now has 18 homers on the season across his time with Durham and the IronPigs. - Media Notes

Summary :


With no score by either side the game went into rain delay in the bottom of the third inning.   The game resumed at 9:30 PM.


TT Bowens homered for Bowie in the 6th inning.  The game went into a second rain delay in the bottom of the 6th inning.


It was eventually suspended and will be played to completion on 6/30/24


On The Hill :  1 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 4 K’s


Zach Haake opened and pitched two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 18 pitches - 10 strikes.  Carlos Francisco pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s - 22 pitches - 14 strikes.  Noah Skirrow pitched 3 innings - 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K - 44 pitches - 30 strikes.


At Bat : 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s

Fightin Phils Ace Robinson Pina earned the win with six innings of two-run ball on Friday night. Pina has been stellar in June, posting a 4-0 record, and 2.51 ERA, over five starts. That included a seven-inning, complete-game shutout on June 8 vs Harrisburg. It was a start that won him Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors. Pina holds the lead for the most wins in the Eastern League with nine. His other Eastern League ranks are: 8th ERA (3.46), 8th SO (76), T-1st CG (1), T-1st SHO (1) and T-2nd WPCT (.800). Pina currently sits second in the Eastern League with an 8.44 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the season. - Media Notes


South Atlantic League ( High A )  - Greensboro 16 (6-2, 45-28) Jersey Shore 1 (3-5, 41-33)

Summary :


Shawn Ross homered for Greensboro in the first inning turning on a 97 mph fastball and hitting it far over the left field wall.


Two doubles scored a run for Greensboro in the third inning.


Zach Arnold walked in the third inning and scored on a double by Erick Brito.


A double and two base error by left fielder Hendry Mendez (missed catch) scored a run for Greensboro in the seventh.


Greensboro scored eleven runs in the 8th including four on a grand slam home run by Jack Brannigan.  A very ugly inning for the BlueClaws with multiple errors, walks and misplays. Greensboro sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning.


Greensboro scored a run in the ninth facing Catcher Ryan Leitch.


On The Hill : 16 R, 17 H, 5 BB, 12 K’s


George Klassen pitched four innings - 3 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s - 77 pitches - 51 strikes. Trey Dillard pitched two innings - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 23 pitches - 14 strikes.  Andrew Baker pitched an inning - 1 unearned R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 15 pitches - 10 strikes.  Beyony Robles faced 7 batters without recording an out - 7 R - 6 earned, 3 H, 3 BB - 34 pitches - 17 strikes.   Danny Wilkinson pitched an inning - 4 R - 1 earned, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s -  38 pitches - 25 strikes.   Catcher Ryan Leitch pitched the ninth inning - 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 20 pitches - 14 strikes.

Zach Arnold had two hits (singles) and a walk.  Erick Brito singled and doubled.

Jordan Viars homered to lead off the bottom of the first inning.


Jordan Viars homered in the third inning.  Four consecutive walks scored a run.  Dakota Kotowski was hit by a pitch to force in another run.


Keiner Delgado hit a two run home run for Bradenton in the 6th inning.


On The Hill :  2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 9 K’s


Micah Ottenbreit pitched six innings - 2 R, 3 H, 1 HB, 2 BB, 5 K’s - 85 pitches - 55 strikes.  Paxton Thompson pitched an inning -  0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 19 pitches - 10 strikes.  Jonathan Petit threw an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 13 pitches - 11 strikes.  Ethan Chenault pitched a perfect injury to close it - 2 K’s - 11 pitches - 9 strikes.

Jordan Viars hit two home runs.  Devin Saltiban had two hits (singles) and a walk.  Pierce Bennett walked twice.

Summary :


Starlyn Caba singled in the first inning and scored on a double by Eduardo Tait.


Alirio Ferrebus doubled in the 5th inning, he scored on a single by Guillermo Rosario.  Juan Villavicencio and Yemal Flores singled - Rosario scored.


Two walks, a passed ball and a wild pitch scored a run for the Tigers in the seventh.


Alirio Ferrebus reached second base on a throwing error by the second baseman in the ninth inning, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Guillermo Rosario’s 4th home run of the season.


Rickardo Hurtado homered for the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth.


On The Hill : 2 R, 4 H, 8 BB, 8 K’s


Jordan Fowler pitched two scoreless innings - 1 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s.  Alexis De La Cruz pitched two perfect innings - 2 K’s.  Maxwell Hernandez pitched two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K.  Orlando Gonzalez finished - 3 IP, 2 R - 1 earned, 1 H, 5 BB, 5 K’s.

The Marlins scored three runs in the seventh on a single, fielding error, wild pitch, fielder’s choice, walk and ground out.

Joshue De La Cruz threw six scoreless innings - 1 H, 3 BB, 8 K’s  Yael Arias pitched an inning - 3 unearned runs, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

Dominican Summer League - NYY Yankees 6 (8-12) Phillies White 1 (7-13) - seven innings

Summary :


Jose Famila walked in the first inning and advanced to second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt by the pitcher.  He scored on a single by Anderson Navas.


A single, fielding error, wild pitch and balk scored a Yankees run in the bottom of the first.  A double, single, walk, fielding error and sacrifice fly scored two more in the second.  Two walks, a balk and sacrifice fly scored a run in the third.


The Yankees plated two more in the fifth on two singles, a walk,balk, wild pitch and sacrifice fly.


On The Hill :  6 R, 5 H, 5 BB, 7 K’s


Julio Polanco pitched 2.1 innings - 4 R - 1 earned, 3 H, 4 BB, 3 K’s.  Richard Reyes went 2.2 innings, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s.  Eduardo Fernandez pitched a perfect inning - 2 K’s.
