6/30/24 : Minor League Week in Review - 6/24 to 6/30

A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.


 Lehigh Valley :

 

The IronPigs went 4-2 at Durham, they are 38-41 overall and 4-2 in the second half.  Utility player Weston Wilson was 10 for 24 with 10 runs scored, 4 home runs and 6 RBIs, he also walked 4 times and had a .500 OBP.  IF/OF Matt Kroon was 5 for 11 in the three games he played.  Outfielder Ruben Cardenas went 9 for 27 with three doubles, two home runs and ten RBIs.  Since joining LHV on 6/7/24 from the Rays system (Durham) he’s hit seven home runs and driven in twenty-three giving him 18 home runs for the season and 51 RBIs.  Outfielder Cal Stevenson was 6 for 15 with three doubles, a home run and four RBIs.  Multi position player Scott Kingery was 6 for 19 with a home run.   Infielder Nick Podkul was 4 for 12 with a home run and five RBIs.


LHP Kolby Allard went 10.2 innings in two starts on Tuesday/Sunday and struck out 13 batters.  RHP Mick Abel pitched five innings in his start (two runs) to post a win and RHP Tyler Phillips went six innings in his start (two runs), he’s now thrown 92 innings this season in 15 starts.


Reading : 

 

Reading went 2-4 hosting Bowie, they are 33-41 overall and 2-4 in the second half.  Infielder Trevor Schwecke was 6 for 14.  Third baseman Otto Kemp was 6 for 17 with a double, two home runs, a couple walks and five RBIs.  Infielder Robert Moore hit two home runs and posted five RBIs.  Outfielder Carlos De La Cruz was 7 for 23 with a double and triple.  RHP Robinson Pina went six innings in his start (two runs) to earn his 9th win of the season.


Jersey Shore :

 

The BlueClaws went 1-5 hosting Greensboro, they are 41-34 overall and 3-6 in the second half.  First baseman Keaton Anthony went 7 for 17  with three walks (.500 OBP).  Infielder Erick Brito was 11 for 26 with three doubles and an inside the park home run. RHP Casey Steward pitched five innings in his first start with JS yielding one run on four hits.  RHP Andrew Baker (2.1 IP), RHP Trey Dillard (3.2 IP) and RHP Dominic Pipkin (2 IP) each made two  relief appearances without yielding an earned runn.


Clearwater :

 

The Threshers went 3-3 hosting Bradenton, they are 47-28 overall and 4-5 in the second half.  Outfielder Jordan Viars was 9 for 22 out of the lead off spot in the lineup with two doubles and two home runs (in the same game on Saturday).  He had a hit in every game of the series and posted a .480 OBP in 25 plate appearances.  Second baseman Devin Saltiban was 5 for 14 with eight runs scored, he had a .500 OBP in 18 PA’s.  LHP Mavis Graves struck out ten batters in five innings allowing just one run in his start.  RHP Luke Russo pitched seven innings (one run, nine strikeouts) and RHP Micah Ottenbreit went six innings (two runs) in their starts.  RHP Braydon Tucker pitched five innings on Sunday allowing just one run.  RHP Wen Hui Pan opened one game and pitched two perfect innings striking out four batters - fastball touched upper nineties.  RHP Brandon Beckel threw three innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and one walk.


FCL Phillies : 


The FCL Phillies went 4-0 during the week, they are 23-16 for the season.  Outfielder Junior Marin was 5 for 6 in the two games he played with a double and home run.  Outfielder Jerffson Peña was 5 for 11 with three doubles and a triple. Catcher/first baseman Guillermo Rosario went 6 for 14 with two doubles and a home run.  Pedro Reyes pitched six innings on Monday allowing one unearned run. Wilmer Blanco pitched five scoreless innings Tuesday allowing just three hits while striking out six batters.  Luis Gonzalez went four scoreless innings in that game completing the shutout allowing just one hit.


Dominican Summer League  :


Phillies Red was 2-4 for the week, 6-14 overall.  Outfielder Samuel Estevez went 5 for 6 in Wednesday’s game and 7 for 13 for the week.  Infielder Adrian Garcia was 7 for 19 with 7 runs scored. Joshue De La Cruz threw six scoreless innings allowing just one hit while striking out 8 batters on Saturday.  Catcher Alirio Ferrebus was promoted stateside to the FCL Phillies.


Phillies White was also 2-4 during the week, 7-13 overall.  Jeffrey German had his best start of the season on Monday, he pitched six innings with one run allowed.  Joel Heredia pitched six scoreless innings in his start on Tuesday allowing just one hit.  Outfielder Jorge Julio was 4 for 10 with three doubles while shortstop Denilson Aguila and catcher Yhoan Escalona each went 4 for 11 for the week.


 Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :

 

Multiple players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team.

RHP Alex Garbrick threw two live BP sessions while right handers Christian McGowan and Andrew Painter threw two limited side sessions on Tuesday and Friday (25 pitches).  Both RHP Guissepe Velasquez and RHP Alex McFarlane were back on the mound for the first time albeit not yet from the rubber in a limited toss session.  Per his instagram account LHP Jordi Martinez had successful Tommy John surgery. Outfielder Tjayy Walton and LHP Jordan Fowler began rehab assignments with the FCL Phillies on Saturday.
