A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.
Lehigh Valley :
The IronPigs went 4-2 hosting Buffalo, they are 46-45 overall and 12-6 in the second half. Outfielder Cal Stevenson was 11 for 20 and had a seven game hitting streak end on Sunday. Infielder Buddy Kennedy was 11 for 26 with three doubles and a home run. Infielder Jim Haley was 5 for 15 and first baseman Darick Hall went 7 for 19 with four doubles and five RBIs, he’s riding a eight game hitting streak (11 for 32). Utility player Scott Kingery was 9 for 24 with five runs scored, two home runs and seven RBIs. RHP David Buchanan pitched six innings on Saturday allowing one run and striking out eight. LHP David Parkinson pitched six innings on Friday allowing one run. LHP Kolby Allard pitched 6.1 innings on Sunday allowing one run on two hits.
Reading :
Reading went 2-4 hosting Akron, they are 37-49 overall and 6-12 in the second half. First baseman Carson Taylor went 6 for 16 with a double, home run, three RBIs and also walked three times (.474 OBP). infielder Robert Moore was 7 for 22 with two home runs, three RBIs and four runs scored. VLHP Lachlan Wells was excellent on Saturday as he pitched seven scoreless innings allowing just three hits in a 1-0 victory. LHP Samuel Aldegheri pitched five innings in his Reading debut allowing one earned run and striking out eight batters.
Jersey Shore :
The BlueClaws went 5-1 hosting Hudson Valley, they are 49-38 overall and 11-10 in the second half. Catcher Jordan Dissin was 6 for 12 with five runs scored and outfielder Troy Schreffler went 4 for 10 with a home run and four RBIs. Infielder Zach Arnold was 6 for 16 with five runs scored. Outfielder Justin Crawford went 4 for 6 in two games with a triple before departing to participate in the Futures All-Star game on Saturday, the Phillies announced on Friday that Crawford has been promoted to AA level Reading. Shortstop Aidan Miller was 2 for 4 with two RBIs before he departed for and participated in the Futures All-Star game. RHP Eiberson Castellano struck out ten batters in six innings on Saturday while allowing just one run. RHP Casey Steward pitched six innings on Thursday allowing one run and LHP Braeden Fausnaught pitched 6.2 innings in his weekly start Tuesday allowing two runs, he pitched 2 more innings on Sunday. LHP Andrew Walling made two scoreless appearances (3 IP).
Clearwater :
The Threshers went 2-4 at Palm Beach, they are 50-37 overall and 7-14 in the second half. Second baseman Devin Saltiban reached base in 7 of his 22 plate appearances (.409) with two home runs and four RBIs. Outfielder Raylin Heredia went 6 for 20 with a double and triple. Infielder Diego Gonzalez hit two home runs (one a grand slam) and posted eight RBIs. Catcher Jared Thomas posted a .636 OBP in eleven plate appearances. RHP Braydon Tucker was excellent on Saturday going six scoreless/hitless innings in bulk relief striking out six batters. RHP Danyony Pulido pitched four scoreless innings on Friday allowing just one hit and RHP Jake Eddington pitched three scoreless/hitless innings on Wednesday striking out four batters.
FCL Phillies :
The FCL Phillies went 2-3 during the week, they are 28-22 for the season. Catcher Eduardo Tait went 7 for 18 with a home run and six RBIs - he’s raised his season batting average to .311 and has a .372 OBP. Shortstop Starlyn Caba was on base 8 times in 17 plate appearances and stole his 35th base of the season in just 46 games played, his season OBP is .441. Juan Amarante pitched 5.2 innings on Monday setting a career high with 10 strikeouts - the 20 year old lefty has arguably been the best pitcher on the FCL staff this season. Orlando Gonzalez pitched six innings on Saturday allowing just one run on three hits.
Dominican Summer League :
Phillies Red was 2-2 for the week, 9-19 overall. Outfielder Esterling Rodriguez went 5 for 8 and also walked 4 times. Outfielder Samuel Estevez was 4 for 10 and also drew five walks.
Phillies White was also 2-2 during the week, 11-17 overall. RHP Hanfermin Vargas threw six scoreless innings on Thursday allowing just two hits with no walks and five strikeouts. His teammate RHP Jeffrey German pitched six scoreless frames on Monday allowing two hits and a walk while striking out seven batters.
Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :
Multiple players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team.
Christian McGowan pitched two scoreless innings on Friday in his second FCL game rehab appearance and Alex Garbrick made his first FCL game rehab appearance Friday striking out two in a scoreless/hitless frame. Side sessions were thrown this week by Dylan Covey, Alex McFarlane, Angel Liranzo, Andrew Painter, Chuck King and Guissepe Velasquez. Erubiel Armenta and Marty Gair have progressed to extended length flat ground throwing. Spencer Turnbull continues strength and conditioning work along with injury care sessions. Position players Rodolfo Castro, Aroon Escobar, Trent Farquhar, Bryan Rincon and Ricardo Rosario continue with conditioning work, throwing programs and cage BP sessions. RHP Chuck King threw a live BP Friday with Castro and Farquhar as hitters. Outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr continued his rehab assignment with the FCL Phillies playing in four games.
