Released by the Los Angeles Angels on 7/1/24 RHP Alan Rangel has inked a minor league deal with the Phillies. (Was originally reported by Robert Murray on 7/12/24 - Fansided). The 26 year old from Mexico was signed by the Angels on 11/21/23 after spending the majority of his career with the Atlanta Braves organization (signed by them 7/2/14 as an international free agent). He’s been a starting pitcher throughout his nine year minor league career (176 appearances - 146 starts) and was doing so at AA level Rocket City with the Angels (four starts - 2.61 ERA - 20.2 IP - 0.97 WHIP - 25 K’s, 5 BB).
After getting acclimated and back in pitching form at the Carpenter Complex he’s likely to join either Reading or Lehigh Valley.
Rangel has a big 12 to 6 curve ball that is his out maker, he also throws a four seamer (has touched 96 mph) and a changeup. He joins former Braves Kolby Allard and Freddie Tarnok in the Phillies minor league organization.
From a fan’s view welcome to the organization Alan!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
