7/18/2020 : Summer Camp Exhibition Game One

Phillies 7 Nationals 2

Roman Quinn was HBP in the first inning and Rhys Hoskins drew a walk ... both scored ahead of Didi Gregorius when he popped a three run homer ( 404 feet ) against Max Scherzer to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.

The Phillies scored four runs in the top of the second inning highlighted by a three run home run by Bryce Harper against Scherzer. Scott Kingery and Andrew Knapp ( both singled ) scored on the Harper tater. Jay Bruce ( singled ) scored earlier in the inning on a Roman Quinn sac fly.

Aaron Nola was cruising along ... he needed some extra pitches so the Nationals got four outs in the third inning ... Conversely Max Scherzer was going over his pitch count so the Phillies only took two outs in the top of the fourth before the inning was rolled 🥴.

Max Scherzer finished strong for Washington by striking out the side in the 5th inning ... his final line - 5 IP, 7 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 6 K’s ... 88 pitches - 58 strikes

Nola recorded three outs on his first six pitches in the fifth inning so he stayed out on the mound again to get more tosses in ... he recorded four outs by striking out the next hitter

Nola was precision like & extra sharp ... 5 IP with 17 outs recorded 😁, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s ... 62 pitches - 42 strikes ... good stuff 🤓

Washington scored a run in the bottom of the 6th against Hector Neris ... Hector gave up a double and a walk and struck out a batter ... he threw 24 pitches - 14 strikes

Cole Irvin pitched a perfect seventh inning needing only 10 pitches - 8 were strikes.

Deolis Guerra tossed a perfect eighth inning - 8 pitches - 7 strikes.

Edgar Garcia gave up a solo dinger to Jake Noll in the bottom of the 9th ... he gave up just the one knock in one inning of work with one strikeout

Hitting Standouts :

Didi & Bryce hit home runs early in the game ... Austin Voth then shut the Phillies down during the second half of the game till Phil Gosselin smoked a double in the ninth inning ... he’s certainly made a case to be on the roster 💪

Summer Camp Record is now 1-0

Home game against Baltimore tomorrow night - on local TV ... former Phillies minor leaguer Tom Eshelman is slated to start for the Orioles on the hill

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
