Phillies 2 Yankees 2 :
Didi Gregorius and JT Realmuto stroked back to back doubles in the top of the first inning to plate the game’s first run.
Nick Williams singled to left field to open the second inning, went to third base on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a single to right field by Roman Quinn.
The Yankees starter Deivy Garcia struggled with command ... he walked two, hit Jean Segura on the hand ( he left the game ) and also hit Quinn in the back on another errant pickoff throw ... we’ve seen Garcia in the minors ... electric stuff but tonight wasn’t there ... he exited after 1 2/3 IP - 45 pitches
Vince Velasquez needed 25 pitches to complete the first inning but then only 50 more to get thru five frames ... after facing three hitters he stayed out in the fifth inning to try to get four outs ( they wanted his pitch count to be at 75 or above ) ... Aaron Judge tagged him for a dinger in what was otherwise a very strong outing for the hurler ... 5 + frames - 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s ... 75 pitches - 48 strikes - very good changeup and life on his FB ... encouraging
Blake Parker tossed the sixth inning ... with two outs he walked two batters and Erik Kratz singled to left field ... Kyle Garlick fielded it on one hop and threw the runner out at home attempting to score to end the inning.
Robert Stock pitched the seventh ... gave up a walk but then got a double play grounder to erase it ... faced three batters in a scoreless frame
Ramon Rosso pitched the 8th inning ... he allowed no runs on 1 hit and 1 walk ... Rafael Marchan threw out a baserunner attempting to steal second ... hose worthy arm !
Mike Ford took Mauricio Llovera deep into the right field bleachers in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at two apiece. Llovera finished up allowing only the one hit.
Final Summer Camp Record 1-1-1
Hitting Standouts :
Nick Williams had two singles
Scott Kingery walked twice
Phil Gosselin ( a hitting machine ), JT Realmuto and Didi Gregorius each doubled
Other Notes :
Rafael Marchan made his summer camp debut tonight at Catcher ... made a snap throw to first in bottom of the seventh that was nasty ... would have had the runner but first baseman was late covering ... also later made a really nice block on a ball in the dirt far to his right and later threw out a baserunner attempting to steal
Other Notes :
RHP Anthony Swarzak was released
At least a couple minor leaguers will be added to the player pool this week
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
