7/20/24 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 4 (13-7,47-46) Worcester 3 (10-9, 45-49)

Summary :


Kody Clemens homered in the first inning.


Worcester scored two runs in the second on a walk, double, single and bunt.


Darick Hall homered in the third inning.


Niko Kavadas homered in the fourth inning for Worcester.


Cal Stevenson and Jim Haley walked in the sixth inning - Cody Roberts singled to score Stevenson.


Buddy Kennedy was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the ninth inning, Darick Hall doubled.  Simon Muzziotti was intentionally walked.  With two outs Cal Stevenson walked to force in the game winning run!


On The Hill : 3 R, 8 H, 5 BB, 10 K’s


Nick Nelson pitched four innings - 3 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s - 71 pitches - 36 strikes.  Griff McGarry pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 1 HB, 1 BB, 0 K’s - 21 pitches - 11 strikes.  Max Lazar pitched two innings - 0 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 49 pitches - 30 strikes.  Michael Rucker pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 14 pitches - 11 strikes.  Tyler Gilbert pitched a perfect inning - 2 K’s - 12 pitches - 10 strikes.

Darick Hall (single, double & HR, two walks) had three hits.   Simon Muzziotti (single & triple) and Cody Roberts (two singles) each had two hits. Cal Stevenson singled and walked twice, he stole his 24th base of the season.  Kody Clemens homered.

Cal Stevenson has been fantasic going on nearly a month. Since June 9, he's 1st in the IL in AVG (.386), 4th in OBP (.462), 10th in SLG (.594), 6th in OPS (1.056), t-2nd in H (39), t-3rd 2B (10), 10th in TB (60), and 3rd in SB (10). Summary :


Gabriel Rincones Jr homered in the first inning.  Caleb Ricketts singled, Carson Taylor walked.  Otto Kemp hit a three run home run.  Leandro Pineda homered.  All three home runs were no doubt about em’s.


Phillip Sikes homered for Portland in the second inning.  Three doubles scored two runs in the third inning.  Roman Anthony homered for them in the fourth inning.


Carson Taylor homered in the fifth inning.


Kyle Teel homered for Portland in the fifth inning.


On The Hill : 5 R, 12 H, 3 BB, 10 K’s


Robinson Pina pitched five innings - 5 R, 8 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 88 pitches - 55 strikes.  Andrew Baker pitched a perfect inning - 2 K’s - 15 pitches - 8 strikes.  Andrew Walling pitched an inning - 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 22 pitches - 15 strikes.  Daniel Harper pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 20 pitches - 11 strikes.  Andrew Schultz closed it - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - 20 pitches - 10 strikes.

Gabriel Rincones Jr, Otto Kemp, Leandro Pineda and Carson Taylor each homered.  Kemp had three RBIs.

Justin Crawford showcased all of his tools in a stellar debut on Friday night. He had three hits, which included two doubles into the gaps and an infield single, where he showcased his elite speed. He additionally manufactured pretty much all by himself. After walking, he moved to second on a passed ball and then stole third, and ultimately came around to score on a ground out. South Atlantic League ( High A )  - Jersey Shore 7 (12-11, 50-39) Brooklyn 2 (8-15, 41-48)

Summary :


Emaarion Boyd reached on a fielding error in the first inning to lead off the game.  He advanced to second on a bunt by William Bergolla and scored on a single by Aidan Miller.  Hendry Mendez doubled to score Miller.  Keaton Anthony singled to score Mendez.


Brooklyn scored two runs in the 5th inning on a double, walk, stolen base, balk and wild pitch.


Trent Farquhar was hit by a pitch in the seventh, stole second and scored on a single by Jordan Viars.


Luis Caicuto singled in the eighth inning, Emaarion Boyd reached on a fielding error.  Aidan Miller tripled to score them both.


Keaton Anthony and Trent Farquhar were hit by pitches to begin the ninth inning, Jordan Viars walked.  A sacrifice fly by Troy Schreffler scored a run.


On The Hill : 2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 11 K’s


Mitch Neunborn pitched five innings - 2 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 8 K’s - 88 pitches - 52 strikes.  Wen Hui Pan pitched two innings - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s.  Wesley Moore pitched a quick perfect inning - 7 pitches - 7 strikes.  Gunner Mayer pitched a perfect inning - 1 K - 7 pitches - 6 strikes.

Aidan Miller had two hits (single & triple, walk, two RBIs).  Luis Caicuto had two hits (singles).  Hendry Mendez and Emaarion Boyd doubled.

Summary :


Devin Saltiban singled in the fourth inning, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Nikau Pouaka-Grego.


A triple and sacrifice fly scored a run for Fort Myers in the 5th inning.  Nick Lucky hit a two run home run for Fort Myers in the sixth inning.  Two doubles and a single scored two runs for them in the seventh inning.


The game went into weather delay with one out in the bottom of the seventh.  Play resumed shortly after 9 PM.


Poncho Ruiz homered for Fort Myers in the ninth inning.


On The Hill :  6 R, 11 H, 5 BB, 9 K’s


Danyony Pulido pitched 4.2 innings - 1 R, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K’s - 91 pitches - 43 strikes.  Jose Pena Jr pitched two plus innings - 4 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s - 38 pitches - 29 strikes. Jonh Henriquez pitched 2.1 innings - 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K’s - 54 pitches - 32 strikes.

Florida Complex League - Phillies (31-24) Blue Jays  (12-42) - two games

Game One :  Phillies 1 Blue Jays 0


Summary :


The game (scheduled for seven innings) began on 7/19/24 - went into the top of the second scoreless with one out recorded before it was suspended due to weather.  It was picked up at this point today.


Jerffson Peña singled in the fifth inning, stole second and scored on a single by Manolfi Jimenez.


Shortstop Starlyn Caba and second baseman Juan Villavicencio made a spectacular play in the fifth inning.  With runners on first and second with one out a bounding ground ball was hit behind the bag en-route to center field, Caba ranged far, snagged it and made a backhand flip to Villavicencio covering second who then pivoted and threw a bullet to first base to complete the inning ending double play!  Was an ESPN highlight reel play 👀.


On The Hill : 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s


Maxwell Hernandez started and pitched an inning - 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K.  Pedro Reyes was outstanding in finishing it - 6 scoreless innings -  4 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s - in three July appearances he’s thrown 14.1 innings -  1 earned run allowed - 0.63 ERA, 0.77 WHIP - 14 K’s, 2 BB - in his last 20.1 IP he’s posted an ERA of 0.44 🔥👏😎.


At Bat : 1 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 6 K’s


Game Two :  Phillies 2 Blue Jays 1


Summary :


Juan Villavicencio was hit by a pitch in the 4th inning, he advanced to third base on a single by Eduardo Tait and scored on a passed ball.  Tait advanced to second on the passed ball and to third on a productive ground out to the right side by Rickardo Perez.  Junior Marin hit a sacrifice fly to score Tait.


A hit batter, double and walk loaded the bases for the Jays in the fifth with one out.  A wild pitch scored a run.


On The Hill : 1 R, 2 H, 7 BB, 4 K’s


Orlando Gonzalez pitched 4.2 innings - 1 R, 2 H, 58 BB, 4 K’s.  Elicier Bata pitched 1.1 innings - 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s.  Alex Garbrick closed it - 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 K’s.


At Bat : 2 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s


Eduardo Tait had two hits (singles).  Jerffson Peña doubled.
