7/21/24 : Minor League Week in Review - 7/15 to 7/21

A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.


 Lehigh Valley :

 

The IronPigs went 2-1 hosting Worcester, they are 48-46 overall and 14-7 in the second half.  Rafael Marchan went three for four in his first game back from the majors.  Kody Clemens hit two home runs.  Darick Hall hit his 70th career home run as an IronPig which makes him the all-time franchise leader - see the spotlight article I wrote on him - https://www.philliesbaseballfan.com/post/7-21-24-spotlight-darick-hall.


Cal Stevenson continued his hot hitting going three for nine with four walks, four runs scored and two stolen bases.  Jim Haley went three for seven with a home run and two RBIs.  RHP Tyler Gilbert made two scoreless appearances - 2.2 IP with four K’s.   Max Lazar pitched two scoreless frames with four strikeouts.  David Buchanan pitched 5.1 innings in Sunday allowing just one run.


Reading : 

 

Reading went 2-1 at Portland, they are 39-50 overall and 8-13 in the second half.  Outfielder Justin Crawford went three for eight in his first two games at the AA level with two doubles and two stolen bases.  Outfielder Ethan Wilson went three for six in two games played.  Utility player Trevor Schwecke was three for five with a triple and two runs scored in his only game played.  Outfielder Leandro Pineda went four for eleven with a home run and two walks.  Outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr was three for nine with a home run.  RHP Eiberson Castellano pitched six innings on Sunday allowing two runs in his AA debut while striking out six batters.


Jersey Shore :

 

The BlueClaws went 2-1 at Brooklyn, they are 51-39 overall and 13-11 in the second half.  LHP Braeden Fausnaught was outstanding on Friday night to open after the break - seven scoreless innings - three hits allowed, no walks, five strikeouts.  RHP Gunner Mayer made two scoreless appearances - two IP.   Right-hand pitchers Wen Hui Pan and Paxton Thompson each pitched two scoreless innings in relief in their only appearances.  First baseman Keaton Anthony was five for twelve with two walks during the week. William Bergolla was five for fifteen while infielder Felix Reyes went three for seven with four RBIs.  Outfielder Pierce Bennett was three for six in two games played.


Clearwater :

 

The Threshers went 0-3 hosting Fort Myers, they are 50-40 overall and 7-17 in the second half.  Infielder Rodolfo Castro was two for six with a home run in two rehab appearances.  RHP Danyony Pulido pitched 4.2 innings allowing one run in his start on Saturday night.


FCL Phillies : 


The FCL Phillies went 3-2 during the week, they are 31-24 for the season. First baseman Rickardo Perez was five for eleven with four RBIs.  Catcher Eduardo Tait was seven for sixteen with two doubles and five runs scored.  Center fielder Jerffson Pena was three for ten.  RHP Pedro Reyes was outstanding on Saturday - six scoreless innings - 6 K’s - in his last 20.1 IP he’s posted an ERA of 0.44. Alex Garbrick pitched three scoreless innings over two rehab appearances.


Dominican Summer League  :


Phillies Red was 1-4 for the week, 10-23 overall.   Phillies White was  2-2 during the week, 13-19 overall.  For Team Red RHP Fernando Ramos made two scoreless appearances (4.2 IP) allowing just one hit.  Team White’s RHP Joel Heredia threw seven scoreless innings on Tuesday with no walks and three strikeouts. Team White Outfielder Victor Cardoza was six for seventeen during the week.  RHP Enderson Jean, SS Jose Familiaand OF Samuel Estevez were selected to the National League team for Sunday’s (7/21/24) league all-star game.


 Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :

 

Multiple  players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team.

Christian McGowan pitched three scoreless innings on Friday for Clearwater, Chuck King threw an inning as well in that contest after pitching an inning for the FCL Phillies on Monday.  Alex Garbrick made two FCL game rehab appearances and pitched three scoreless innings in total.  Side sessions were thrown this week by Dylan Covey, Alex McFarlane, Angel Liranzo, Andrew Painter and Guissepe Velasquez.  Dylan Covey threw a live BP session on Friday.  Erubiel Armenta and Marty Gair continue extended length flat ground throwing.  Tristan Garnett has joined the group.  Spencer Turnbull continues strength and conditioning work along with injury care sessions.  Position players Aroon Escobar, Bryan Rincon and Ricardo Rosario continue with conditioning work, throwing programs and cage BP sessions.  Infielder Rodolfo Castro made rehab appearances with the FCL Phillies and Clearwater.  Outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr, infielder Trent Farquhar and RHP Wen Hui Pan were activated from the 60 day IL.
