Add another University of Kansas Jayhawk to the Phillies amateur signing class of 2024 as twenty-three year old RHP Reese Dutton joins catcher Kodey Shojinaga (6th round pick) and RHP Tegan Cain (13th round pick) as new Phillies!
Dutton was at the complex yesterday and will join in group workouts this morning. He was 7-5 with a 3.78 ERA in 15 starts for Kansas last season in 85.2 IP with 82 K’s and 33 walks. He pitched for the University of South Carolina Upstate in 2023 where he posted a 10-3 record in 15 starts (90.1 IP) with 102 strikeouts and 30 walks. He had pitched for Heartland Community College prior to that. He’s from Kenosha, Wisconsin where he lettered in baseball and wrestling at Tremper High School. His dad was his wrestling coach in high school. Reese is a sinker/slider pitcher who also has a changeup. From video I’ve watched he goes after hitters and is capable of going deep into game as a starter.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Reese!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
