Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :
Multiple players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team.
Bryan Rincon continues to take ground balls and hit in the cage, he also took AB’s in live BP on Friday. Aroon Escobar and Ricardo Rosario continue on their way back taking BP in the cages and doing their conditioning work and throwing programs. Spencer Turnbull did some flat ground throwing earlier in the week, he continues with strength and conditioning work and arm care sessions. Dylan Covey threw live BP’s on Monday and Thursday and began a rehab assignment with Clearwater on Sunday. Alex McFarlane and Guissepe Velasquez threw side sessions Tuesday and Friday, Angel Liranzo threw a fifteen pitch live BP on Friday. Chase Hopewell (oblique) and Jalvin Arias (hamate bone) joined the group this week.
New Player workouts :
Nineteen draft signings and six un-drafted free agent signings began workouts at the complex on Thursday and continued thru Sunday. The newly formed “Bridge League” begins play this coming week. The Bridge League games are training games akin to extended spring training and will include holdovers from the recently completed FCL squad.
Shown below is the Phillies Bridge League game schedule - the Pirates and Tigers advanced to the FCL finals (they play a best of three championship series 7/28 to 7/30) - because of that the Phillies/Tigers Bridge League game originally scheduled for 7/30 has been cancelled. Also cancelled was the 7/29 scheduled game against the Yankees. On dates where no game is scheduled there will be camp days.
One other note : per the minor league CBA domestic first year minor league player contracts don’t count against the 165 domestic minor league reserve roster limit until either the player has been placed on an active roster (Bridge League participation is not considered as an active roster designation) or 15 days have elapsed after signing the contract. As an example the Phillies draft signees on 7/23/24 won’t count against the reserve limit until 8/9/24 unless activated with an affiliate club before then.
