International League ( AAA ) - Lehigh Valley 7 (7-3, 41-42) Scranton Wilkes-Barre 5 (3-6, 46-37)

PNC Field, Moosic, PA


Summary :


Weston Wilson and Buddy Kennedy singled in the first inning, they scored on a home run by Ruben Cardenas.  Two batters later Nick Podkul homered.


A double, ground out and wild pitch scored a run for SWB in the bottom of the first.


Cody Roberts doubled in the third inning, he scored on a single by Buddy Kennedy.  Darick Hall hit a two run home run.


A single, walk, double and wild pitch scored three runs for SWB in the fifth inning.  They scored a seventh inning run on a double, wild pitch and ground out.


At Bat : 7 R, 12 H, 0 BB, 8 K’s


Buddy Kennedy (two singles), Ruben Cardenas (single, HR, 3 RBIs), Darick Hall (single, HR, 2 RBIs) and Jim Haley (two singles) and Cody Roberts (two doubles) each had two hits.   Nick Podkul homered.


On The Hill :  5 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 7 K’s


Mick Abel pitched 4.2 innings - 4 R - 3 earned,  4 H, 3 BB, 6 K’s - 97 pitches - 57 strikes.  Taylor Lehman pitched 1/3 of an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 8 pitches - 5 strikes.  Tyler McKay pitched two innings - 1 R, 1 H, 1 HB, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 25 pitches - 15 strikes.

Michael Rucker pitched an inning - 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 10 pitches - 8 strikes.  Tyler Gilbert pitched a perfect ninth inning - 1 K - 14 pitches - 9 strikes.

The 'Pigs finished with a 17-9 record in June, their most wins in a month this season. It is actually the most wins in a month for the 'Pigs since they won 18 games in June of 2018. Summary :


Somerset scored five runs in the third inning - three of which were on a home run by Benjamin Cowles and one on a solo home run by Rafael Flores.


The game went into rain delay in the top of the fourth inning. It was eventually suspended.

Josh Breaux hit a three-run home run on Wednesday night in just his second start with the Fightin Phils. He was released by the Yankees on June 29 and signed with the Phillies and was assigned to Reading on July 2. Ironically, his first games with the R-Phils come against his old organization and the team he played the most games for in his professional career. Breaux appeared in 104 games for the Patriots between the 2021-23 seasons Media Notes

Summary :


Aidan Miller led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run.  Justin Crawford singled and advanced to second on a fielding error.  He scored on a single by Hendry Mendez.


Jordan Dissin walked in the second inning, went to third on a single by Zach Arnold.  He scored on a sacrifice fly by Troy Schreffler.


Justin Crawford singled in the third inning, Keaton Anthony doubled.  Hendry Mendez singled to score two runs.  Erick Brito singled.  Jordan Dissin singled to score Mendez.  Zach Arnold singled to score a run.  A ground out scored another run.


Erick Brito walked in the bottom of the fifth, Emaarion Boyd doubled. Zach Arnoldsingled to score them both.


Three doubles scored two runs for Wilmington in the seventh inning.


Emaarion Boyd and Jordan Dissin singled in the seventh, Zach Arnold walked.  Troy Schreffler hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Aidan Miller reached on a fielders choice on which a run scored.  Justin Crawford singled and Keaton Anthony reached on an error on which Miller scored.  Hendry Mendez singled to score a run, Erick Brito grounded out to score another.


Wilmington scored a run in the ninth on a walk and two singles.


On The Hill :


Jean Cabrera was outstanding - 6 no hit, no run innings - 1 HB, 1 BB, 10 K’s - 88 pitches - 53 strikes.  Danny Wilkinson pitched an inning - 2 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 35 pitches - 20 strikes.  Mason Ronan pitched two innings - 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 36 pitches - 24 strikes.


At Bat : 15 R, 17 H, 3 BB, 7 K’s


Hendry Mendez had four hits (singles) and four RBIs. Justin Crawford and Zach Arnold each had three hits (singles), Arnold had three RBIs.  Emaarion Boyd and Jordan Dissin had two hits, Boyd doubled and scored twice, Dissin scored three runs.

Keaton Anthony doubled.  Aidan Miller homered, posted two RBIs and scored twice.


Defensive Gem :


Center fielder Justin Crawford make a great running catch against the left center field fence to close the fifth inning.

The BlueClaws welcome Wilmington for a three-game series after the Blue Rocks took two of three from the BlueClaws in Delaware earlier this week. Summary :


In the second inning Yemal Flores appeared to have hit a home run however the home plate umpire ruled it a foul ball instead.


Devin Saltiban walked in the third inning, TJayy Walton singled.  They scored on a home run by Bryson Ware.


Nikau Pouaka-Grego singled in the 6th inning, he scored on a home run by Jared Thomas.  Yemal Flores wasn’t denied in this inning - a no doubt about it home run far over the left center field fence!  Avery Owusu-Asiedu went back to back to back!  Three dingers in a row.   Jordan Viars  singled, Devin Saltiban walked.  Bryson Ware singled to score a run.


Bryson Ware and Nikau Pouaka-Grego hit back to back home runs in the 8th inning.


A single and two doubles scored three runs for Dunedin in the 8th inning.


Yemal Flores singled in the ninth and scored on a home run by Jordan Viars.


On The Hill : 3 R, 9 H, 3 BB, 11 K’s


Wen Hui Pan pitched three innings - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s - 57 pitches - 34 strikes.  Brandon Beckel pitched two innings - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 24 pitches - 14 strikes. Summary :


A single & double scored a run for the Blue Jays in the third inning.


Eduardo Tait singled in the fourth inning and scored on a home run by Rickardo Perez.


On The Hill :


Josbel Garcia pitched 5.2 innings - 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K’s.   Alexis De La Cruz was excellent - he retired all ten batters he faced in 3.1 IP - 2 K’s.


At Bat : 2 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 12 K’s


Eduardo Tait went 3 for 3 (singles).   Rickardo Perez homered.


Defensive Gem :


Center fielder Jerffson Peña made a highlight reel over the shoulder running catch on a long drive that was heading to the batting wall.  I’ve seen him make strong defensive plays multiple times.  He can go get the baseball.


Dominican Summer League -Rangers Red 12 (18-4) Phillies Red 3 (6-16)

Summary :


The Rangers scored two runs in the third inning on a hit batter, walk, stolen base and single.   They posted five runs in the fourth on two walks, a hit batter, three singles and a double and one in the fifth on a hit batter, single and two wild pitches.  They scored twice in the sixth on a walk, hit batter, fielding error and wild pitch.


Adrian Garcia singled in the bottom of the 6th, two walks loaded the bases, Garcia then scored on a ground out.  Yonkelvin Polanco singled to score two runs.


The Rangers scored twice in the seventh on two walks, two wild pitches and a single.


On The Hill : 12 R, 10 H, 11 BB, 9 K’s


Eligio Arias pitched two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s.  Naiker Velasquez went 1.2 innings - 7 R - 5 earned, 4 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s. Rene Yrish pitched 1.1 innings - 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s. Gregory Lebron pitched an inning - 2 R - 1 earned, 0 H, 4 BB, 1 K.  Darling Reyes pitched three innings - 2 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s.

Adrian Garcia had two hits (singles).

Australian catcher  Declan Speirs made his DSL pro debut today, the 19 year old was signed on 9/12/23.


Dominican Summer League - Phillies White 4 (8-14) Mets Orange 1 (10-11)

Summary :


Yhoan Escalona walked in the fourth inning,  Victor Cardoza reached on a throwing error.  Francisco Loreto singled to score a run. A second run scored on a ground out by Andres Hernandez.


The Mets scored in the fifth on a hit batter, walk and throwing error.


Jorge Julio walked in the sixth, advanced on a wild pitch and passed ball to third base and then scored on a wild pitch.


Yhoan Escalona singled in the 8th inning, Jorge Julio reached on an error. Victor Cardoza singled to score Escalona.


On The Hill : 1 R, 5 H, 6 BB, 7 K’s


Hanfermin Vargas pitched 4.2 innings - 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K’s.  Enderson Jean pitched 1.2 innings - 0 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s.

Eduardo Fernandez pitched 2.2 innings - 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s.
