Aaron Nola was flat out filthy, outstanding off speed deliveries and excellent command of all of his pitches ... he went eight dominating innings allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out ten ... the fourteenth double digit strikeout game of his career. Aaron threw just 89 pitches - 63 for strikes.
Johan Camargo took Nick Pivetta yard in the top of the ninth inning. Ender Inciarte and Adeiny Hechavarria singled ... Charlie Culbertson doubled to score Inciarte. A sac fly scored Hechavarria. Travis d’Arnaud doubled to score Culbertson. Nick Markakis doubled ( 500th of his career ) to score d’Arnaud. Pivetta could only record one out ... he gave up 6 runs on six hits ... a rather unmotivated performance 🤦♂️.
Austin Riley hit a two run bomb against Trevor Kelley ( allowing an inherited runner to also score ). Kelley finally recorded the last out. Pivetta and Kelley needed 44 pitches to complete the inning.
Record is now 5-6

Rhys Hoskins turned a 3-6-3 double play in the third inning on a hard hit grounder right at him. He’s played very well defensively ... especially with his throwing ... great sign as he works very hard at it, doesn’t come naturally for the big fella but he’s very much improved from when we saw him in the minor leagues.
Hitting Notes :
Roman Quinn had three hits in the game. Phil Gosselin, Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto had two apiece. Jean Segura walked twice in addition to hitting a home run. The team had 14 hits in total.
Other Notes :
Joe Girardi said before the game that both Vince Velasquez and Spencer Howard will prepare this week as if they are starting on Friday ... no decision has been made yet as to whom will start. Whichever pitcher doesn’t start will be available out of the bullpen for either Friday or Saturday. That approach will set them both up to start a game in the doubleheader against Toronto on August 20th.
Tonight was the first time in Phillies history (only 138 seasons) that the team scored 10 runs and hit 4 HR within the first two innings of a game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. - Matt Gelb
Tonight was Aaron Nola's 14th double-digit strikeout game and his 130th career game. No Phillies pitcher has more double-digit strikeout games through their first 130 games. - Matt Breen
