A summary of results and standouts from the past week in the Phillies minor league system.
Lehigh Valley :
The IronPigs went 1-5 at Worcester, they are 56-60 overall and 22-21 in the second half. Kody Clemens was 10 for 26, Scott Kingery 8 for 19, Matt Kroon 4 for 13 and Darick Hall posted three RBIs which makes him the all-time franchise leader in the category along with being the all-time career home run leader. RHP Seth Johnson (IronPigs debut) pitched five scoreless innings in his start on Friday allowing one hit. RHP Kyle Tyler had a strong LHV debut in his start on Thursday - five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven. RHP Robinson Pina (also his IronPigs debut) pitched five innings on Saturday allowing two runs. RHP Mick Abel on Wednesday had his second consecutive good outing - five innings - one unearned run, three hits, seven strikeouts.
Reading :
Reading went 5-1 hosting New Hampshire, they are 51-62 overall and 20-25 in the second half. Trevor Schwecke went 9 for 21 with a home run and seven RBIs - he’s quietly had a very solid year. Justin Crawford was 6 for 22, Carson Taylor 6 for 17 with a home run, Cade Fergus 5 for 12 with two doubles and Gabriel Rincones Jr hit two home runs . Robert Moore was on base 8 times (4 hits, 4 walks) in 17 plate appearances and Otto Kemp reached base 12 times in 26 plate appearances (6 hits, 3 walks, 3 hit by pitches) and scored eight runs. In Saturday’s game Kemp, Rincones Jr and Schwecke hit back to back to back home runs - the last time three Reading batters did that was 6/7/16 when Jorge Alfaro, Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins did so.
RHP Moise Chase and LHP Braeden Fausnaught made strong initial impressions in their first Reading appearances - Fausnaught pitched five innings on Wednesday allowing one run on five hits while walking none and striking out five batters. Chase pitched five innings Saturday allowing one run on five hits with one walk while striking out six batters. RHP Konnor Ash made two scoreless relief appearances totaling four innings while Nelson Alvarez made three scoreless appearances (4.1 IP - 7 K’s). Eiberson Castellano struck out ten batters in six innings on Sunday allowing two runs on five hits and one walk. Tommy McCollum, Andrew Schultz, Cristian Hernandez and Daniel Harper each made two appearances and yielded no earned runs.
Jersey Shore :
The BlueClaws went 4-2 hosting Winston-Salem, they are 62-52 overall and 24-24 in the second half. Bryson Ware had a standout week going 8 for 15 with 2 doubles - he also walked once and had a .588 OBP. Aidan Miller had a strong week going 7 for 21 with two home runs and four RBIs. Keaton Anthony was 6 for 19 with a double, home run and four RBIs.
RHP Mitch Neunborn pitched 6.2 innings in his start on Friday allowing one unearned run. RHP Estibenzon Jimenez pitched four scoreless innings of relief on Tuesday allowing just a hit and no walks. RHP Wen Hui-Pan made two relief appearances - four innings total - one run allowed, the velocity and fastball movement have been impressive - he’s consistently been in the 96-99 mph range🔥. RHP Trey Dillard, RHP Alex Garbrick, RHP Ethan Chenault and RHP Jaydenn Estanista each made two scoreless relief appearances (2 IP total). RHP Gunner Mayer made two scoreless appearances (2.2 IP). LHP Jordan Fowler pitched 4.1 scoreless frames, allowing two hits while striking out five batters. RHP Braydon Tucker pitched six scoreless innings on Sunday allowing just three hits.
Clearwater :
The Threshers went 3-3 hosting Tampa, they are 57-55 overall and 14-32 in the second half. Devin Saltiban hit three home runs and posted ten RBIs, he was 7 for 23 for the week. Joel Dragoo was 7 for 16 with two doubles and six RBIs, he also walked twice and had a .500 OBP. Kehden Hettiger was 5 for 14 with a double, triple, two home runs, four RBIs and four walks - .500 OBP. Brady Day was 5 for 15, Avery Owusu-Asiedu 4 for 11 and John Spikerman 5 for 14. LHP Juan Amarante pitched six innings - one run on two hits with eight strikeouts. RHP Danyony Pulido pitched five innings - two runs - one earned, six strikeouts. RHP Luis Avila made three scoreless relief appearances (3.2 IP) with two strikeouts. RHP Drew Garrett made two scoreless relief appearances (3.1 IP).
Dominican Summer League :
In the Dominican Summer League Phillies Red was 4-1 (20-33 overall) and Phillies White 2-2 (25-28 overall) for the week. Team Red outfielder Victor Cardoza was 7 for 17 with a home run. Infielder Adrian Garcia was 5 for 12 and catcher Cesar Mujica was 5 for 15. RHP Brad Pacheco pitched five scoreless innings Friday allowing two hits and striking out six batters - in three August appearances he has thrown twelve scoreless frames allowing just six hits, walking two and has posted seventeen strikeouts.
For Team White RHP Hanfermin Vargas pitched six scoreless innings on Thursday allowing three hits. RHP Julio Polanco pitched five scoreless innings on Saturday allowing just one hit while striking out six batters. Catcher Santiago Prado went 5 for 10 during the week.
There are two games remaining for each team - the DSL regular season concludes on 8/20/24.
Injury Updates (rehab group at the complex) :
Multiple players continue to work towards returning to game action at the complex under the guidance of the rehab team. Side bullpens of individualized length and restrictions (pitch count) were thrown by Marty Gair, Tristan Garnett, Matt Osterberg, Andrew Painter and Alex McFarlane. Cam Brown threw a live BP early in the week and then pitched an inning in Friday’s Bridge League game. Matt Osterberg, Lachlan Wells and Griffin Burkholder joined the group this week.
Bridge League : 2-2-1 (five games played)
The Phillies Bridge League team hosted the Pirates on Tuesday at Carpenter Complex - a 7-0 loss. Ryan Degges,Tegan Cain, Titan Hayes, Luke Gabrysh, AJ Wilson, Zack Tulis, Eli Trop and Kyler Carmack pitched an inning each.
On Friday the team traveled to Dunedin to play the Blue Jays - a 4-2 win. Yemal Flores and Jerffson Pena had two hits, Juan Villavicencio homered. Angel Liranzo, Cam Brown, Kyler Carmack, Ryan Degges, Luke Gabrysh, Sam Highfill and Eli Trop pitched.
Throughout the week fielding drills, batting practices, strength and conditioning sessions, education classes and bullpens took place. Pitchers Titan Hayes, Tegan Cain and A.J. Wilson were transferred to the Threshers on Friday and made their official pro debut in that evening’s game.
Shown below is the remaining tentative Phillies Bridge League game schedule. On dates where no game is scheduled there will be camp days. It’s the rainy season in Florida so the schedule is subject to daily changes as are practice sessions.
