Phillies 5 Yankees 4
JT Realmuto hit a three run home run in the bottom of the first inning scoring Rhys Hoskins ( walked ) and Bryce Harper ( singled ) in front of him.
The Yankees scored twice in the top of the second against Zach Eflin on a bases loaded single by Mike Tauchman ... both runs were unearned due to a catching error on second baseman Scott Kingery who missed a low throw to second base that would have been an out otherwise.
Phil Gosselin smoked a double off the left center field wall to score Bryce Harper ( reached on fielder’s choice ) and JT Realmuto ( singled ) for two runs in the third inning.
Zach Eflin went four productive innings ... 2 R - 0 Earned, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K’s - 77 pitches - 53 strikes ... Zach was on a pitch count as he got a late start in summer camp due to back issues.
Deolis Guerra pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Gary Sanchez hit a two run home run for the Yankees against Nick Pivetta in the top of the seventh inning.
Nick Pivetta went two innings ( sixth and seventh ) - 2 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s
Jose Alvarez got two outs in the eighth inning but Giancarlo Stanton doubled which brought pinch hitter Aaron Judge to the plate. Skipper Joe Girardi went to Hector Neris and he struck out Judge on a nasty splitter to end the inning.
Hector Neris had some tense moments in the bottom of the ninth as the Yankees got two singles but he held on for the save !
Record is now 3-4
Notes :
Roman Quinn tripled in the fourth inning down the right field line. He worked a nine pitch walk in the seventh but got picked off at first base afterwards.
Andrew McCutchen had two hits ( single & double ) as did JT Realmuto ( HR & single ). Bryce Harper singled and walked twice.
It’s my semi informed belief that Spencer Howard will make his major league debut on Sunday.
The Phillies will play seven games in five days in Miami against the Marlins to make up for last week's postponements including two doubleheaders ...
Tomorrow my wife Barb and I celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary 😍 ... I’m a blessed man 😎
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
