9/7/24 : Minor League Roundup

International League ( AAA ) - Buffalo 5 (25-36, 62-73) Lehigh Valley 4 (29-30, 63-69)

Sahlen Field, Buffalo, NY


Summary :


In the first inning Marcus Lee Sang singled, Scott Kingery laid a bunt single down the third base line and Darick Hall walked (he challenged a strike call and had it overturned 🤓).  Lee Sang scored when Jim Haley grounded into a double play.


Marcus Lee Sang singled in the third inning, advanced to second on a balk, to third on a bloop single to center by Darick Hall and scored on a ground out by Jim Haley.


A walk and two bunt singles loaded the bases for Buffalo in the third inning, a ground ball single to center field scored two runs. A bloop single to center scored a run.


Steward Berroa hit a two run home run for Buffalo in the fourth inning.


Marcus Lee Sang walked in the fifth inning, went to third on a single by Scott Kingery and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jim Haley.


Scott Kingery doubled in the seventh inning, he scored on a single by Darick Hall.


At Bat : 4 R, 10 H, 4 BB, 7 K’s


Scott Kingery had four hits (two singles & two doubles). Marcus Lee Sang, Darick Hall and Carlos De La Cruz each had two hits (singles), Lee Sang and Hall also walked.

Robinson Pina pitched four innings - 5 R, 9 H, 3 BB, 3 K’s - 88 pitches - 52 strikes.  Alan Rangel pitched very well including stranding runners at second and third base inheriting that situation in the fifth inning - overall he went three innings - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 31 pitches - 25 strikes.  Tyler Gilbert pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K’s - 16 pitches - 10 strikes.

Erie scored twice in the first inning on two hit batters, a wild pitch and single.


Ethan Wilson and Cade Fergus singled in the second inning, Andrick Nava singled to score a run.


A fielding error and two singles scored a run for Erie in the fourth inning. A sacrifice fly and single scored two more.


Two singles, four walks, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly scored three runs for Erie in the sixth inning.


Two singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly scored three runs for Erie in the ninth inning.


On The Hill : 11 R, 10 H, 7 BB, 7 K’s


Eiberson Castellano pitched five innings - 5 R - 3 earned, 4 H, 2 HB, 0 BB, 4 K’s -  83 pitches - 56 strikes.  Konnor Ash pitched 2/3 of an inning - 3 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s - 26 pitches - 11 strikes.   Andrew Baker pitched 1.1 innings - 0 R, 0 H, 3 BB, 0 K’s - 31 pitches - 14 strikes - 2 of 3 inherited runners scored.  Tristan Garnett pitched an inning - 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K’s - 16 pitches - 11 strikes.  Daniel Harper pitched an inning - 3 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 0 K’s - 29 pitches - 16 strikes.

Summary :


Trent Farquhar reached base in the first inning on a throwing error.  Bryan Rincon and Hendry Mendez singled. Bryson Ware doubled to score two runs. Jordan Viars hit a sacrifice fly to score a run.  Felix Reyes grounded out to score Ware.


On The Hill : 0 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 12 K’s


Braydon Tucker was outstanding - seven scoreless innings - 6 H, 1 BB, 8 K’s - 98 pitches - 71 strikes 👀👏.   Charles King pitched two perfect innings - 4 K’s - 22 pitches - 16 strikes.


At Bat : 4 R, 10 H, 0 BB, 10 K’s


Bryson Ware (single, double, two RBIs), Felix Reyes (two singles), Hendry Mendez (two singles) and Bryan Rincon (two singles) each had two hits.

A Studpendous Season - Keaton Anthony’s .356 batting average is the third best in BlueClaws history (min 200 at bats) behind Chris Duffy’s .384 in 2012 and Michael Taylor’s .361 in 2008.  While he didn’t have enough at bats to qualify for the SAL or the FSL League title (he hit .322 with Clearwater), he does for the overall MiLB crown, and Anthony’s combined batting average this season is third best in the minors among qualified hitters (Chandler Simpson of the Rays leads at .356). - Media Notes

A walk, passed ball and double scored a run for St Lucie in the third inning.


Two walks, a double steal and single scored two runs for St Lucie in the seventh inning.


A fielding error and double scored a St Lucie run in the eighth inning.


A hit batter, three walks and a wild pitch scored two runs for St Lucie in the ninth inning.

Lachlan Wells pitched two innings - 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s -  38 pitches - 26 strikes.  A.J. Last night  Carson DeMartini completed a relay throw from centerfield to throw out a runner headed home and seal a 3-2 victory for the Threshers over the St. Lucie Mets. He also finished with one hit and walked in the game-tying run in the seventh.- Media Notes


System Transactions :


Lehigh Valley : C Jared Thomas transferred from Jersey Shore. RHP Jose Cuas (number TBD) has been claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and he has been optioned (from Philadelphia). Cuas will report to LHV on Tuesday (9/10).  C Cody Roberts placed on the 7-day IL (retroactive to 9/6). C Aramis Garcia has had his contract selected (to Philadelphia).

INF Rodolfo Castro has been recalled (to Philadelphia) and placed on the 60-day IL.


Clearwater : LHP Lachlan Wells added on a minor league rehab assignment.
