An inside look at the Phillies top prospects.

RHP Adonis Medina
Phillies # 5 prospect according to MLB.com … 23 years old … signed 5/29/2014 ... from Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic
We first saw Adonis pitch in the 2015 Fall Instructs after he had just completed his first stateside season in the GCL. Even then he had a very live arm and excellent deception with his change up ... delivers it freely with same arm slot and arm speed, it’s a pitch that’s an out maker.
Over the four years we’ve watched him since there’s been both good and not so good results ... consistency has been a struggle. Adonis is a passionate competitor who’s from this observer’s view is too hard on himself ... I’ve witnessed games where his body language display is reflective of the emotions ... he’s not one that hides those well.
The talent is there, FB that punches into the mid 90’s with Eflin like sinking action, a very good change up and a slider that is sharp when he’s on top of it yet flat when he’s not ... the release consistency is ongoing work.
Projection : This is the second year that Adonis has been on the 40 man roster, he’s still just 23 years old ... I thought he was certainly in the running for a Lehigh Valley rotation spot this spring. If he can harness the emotions and further refine the slider he’s very capable of becoming a long term contributor in the big leagues ... has all the tools to be a winning pitcher in the starting rotation.
