International League ( AAA ) - Rochester 11 ( 43-38 ) Lehigh Valley 2 ( 43-38 )


Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


Taylor Gushue  hit a home run for Rochester in the second inning.  Nick Banks hit a two run double for them in the 3rd inning.


Ildemaro Vargas doubled in a run for Rochester in the 4th inning, he scored on a Joey Meneses single.


Nick Banks hit a two run home run for Rochester in the fifth. Josh Palacios hit a two run homer as well.


The Iron Pigs scored twice in the 5th, one on a ground out by Chris Sharpe, the other on an RBI single by Dalton Guthrie.


Rochester added two more runs in the 8th inning - Ildemaro Vargas homered.


On The Hill :

Eastern League ( AA ) - Reading 5 ( 34-44, 5-4 ) Richmond 3 ( 43-35, 3-6 )


Richmond, VA - The Diamond


Summary :


Sean Roby hit his 22nd home run of the season for Richmond in the first inning.


Wendell Rijo homered for Reading in the top of the second inning to tie the score at one apiece.


Simon Muzziotti hit his first home run at the AA level, a 398 foot rocket line drive that went over the right field fence.   Johan Rojas tripled to left field on a deep fly ball the left fielder turned the wrong way on ( Richmond twitter didn’t react as badly as Phillies fans do when this happens 😂 ).  Logan O’Hoppe beat out an infield single on which Rojas scored.


Richmond tied the game with two runs in the 7th on a double by Armani Smith scoring Tyler Fitzgerald ( HBP ) and Jacob Heyward ( single ).


Wendell Rijo hit his 2nd home run of the game to lead off the top of the 9th inning, a drive over the left field wall.  AJ Graffanino doubled, Kevin Vicuna was hit by a pitch & Jonathan Guzman put down a sacrifice bunt to move them both up.  Simon Muzziotti grounded out to score Graffanino.


Richmond’s Jacob Heyward hit a shot off the left field wall that perhaps he admired too much as he was thrown out at second base by left fielder Simon Muzziotti.  I’m pretty sure that Heyward thought the ball was going out as he watched it a bit before running 🥸.


On The Hill :


LH Ethan Lindow - 6 2/3 IP, 3 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K’s - 89 pitches - 60 strikes - threw very well - retired 8 in a row at one point.

RH Tyler McKay - 1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K’s - 22 pitches - 13 strikes - stranded an inherited runner

RH McKinley Moore - struck out only batter faced - 3 pitches - 3 strikes - stranded two runners

South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Hudson Valley 7 ( 41-37, 7-5 ) Jersey Shore 1 ( 27-50, 2-9 )

Summary :


Trey Sweeney doubled to score Eduardo Torrealba ( walked ) in the third inning for Hudson Valley.  Anthony Seigler reached on a fielding error by Casey Martin which allowed a second run to score.  Spencer Henson hit a two run home run.


Jared Carr walked in the 5th inning, went to third on a single by Herbert Iser and scored on a single by Freylin Minyety.


Everson Pereira doubled to score two runs for HV in the seventh frame.


Hudson Valley scored a run  in the ninth on three singles.


On The Hill :

Summary :


Dunedin scored twice in the second inning on a home run by Amell Brazoban.


The Threshers plated four in the third inning - Erick Brito singled, advanced to second on an error and to third on a balk.  Leandro Pineda walked.  Nick Maton singled to score Brito. Marcus Lee Sang hit a three run home run.


Brazoban doubled in a run for the Blue Jays in the fourth inning.


Arturo DeFreitas hit a two run home run in the sixth inning.


Roque Salinas homered for Dunedin in the 8th inning.


On The Hill :

Florida Complex League :


Game One - Tigers 9 ( 7-15 ) Phillies 2 ( 8-13 ) - Completion of suspended game from 6/30/22 - picked up in 5th inning


Summary :


The game was tied at two apiece after the first four innings were played back on June 30th.  Yemal Flores hit his first stateside home run that day.


The Tigers scored six runs in the 5th inning this morning ( 10 AM ) when play resumed.   They hit five singles, a double ( Clayton Campbell ) and a triple ( Moises Valero ) in the inning, they added another run in the 8th inning.


On The Hill :


RH Jose Pena Jr - 3 2/3 IP, 2 R - 1 earned, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 HB, 3 K’s ( pitched in the 6/30 portion of game )

Luis Garcia ( on rehab -6/30 ), Randy Vasquez & Jordan Viars doubled - Viars hit it off the center field wall 💪.   Justin Williams ( on rehab - 6/30 ) had two hits in the 6/30 portion of the game but did not play today.



Game Two - Phillies 4 ( 9-13 ) Tigers 3 ( 7-16 ) - seven innings


Summary :


The Tigers scored a first inning run as they loaded the bases on walks and scored on a wild pitch.


Justin Williams ( rehab ) singled in the bottom of the first, he scored on a double by Felix Reyes.  Jackie Pertuz doubled to score Reyes.  Yemal Flores walked - Randy Vasquez doubled to score both Pertuz & Flores.


Clayton Campbell singled in the 4th for the Tigers, advanced to third base on a couple of ground outs and scored on a wild pitch.


Abel Bastidas doubled in a run for the Tigers in the 7th inning.


On The Hill :

Note :


We attended most of the first game but then I had to leave as the heat and humidity was too much.  There’s no shade in the bleachers on Roberts Field which is where the games were played today.  Guess I’m getting too old and out of shape to take the weather 🤦‍♂️.


Jose Pena Jr earned his first win of the season in the second game - tomorrow is his 19th birthday !  Happy Birthday Jose - chalk one up in the win column 🤓


Today’s FCL game action - Phillies & Tigers


Dominican Summer League :


Twins 8 ( 13-11 ) Phillies Red 3 ( 14-8 )


Summary :


The Twins used two hits and an error to score a run in the top of the first.  The Phillies loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter in the bottom of the inning - Santiago Torres singled to score a run.


Luis Rodriquez tripled for the Twins in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly.  They added another run in the fourth.


Santiago Torres singled in the sixth, stole second base, went to third on a single by Neify Rosario and scored on a groundout.

Jose Rodriquez hit a two run home run for the Twins in the seventh inning.


Jhorjan Guevara hit an RBI double for the Phillies in the 8th inning.


The Twins scored three runs in the top of the 9th on a double and three singles.


On The Hill :


RH Luis Gonzalez - 4 IP, 3 R - 2 earned, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s

RH Luis Gomez -  3 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 5 K’s

Summary :


Anthony Gutierrez homered for the Rangers in the 4th inning.  He doubled to score a run in the 6th.


Manolfi Jimenez homered for the Phillies in the 7th inning.
